Thread: Finely found the picture

Started 1 month, 3 weeks ago by kraigwy
I mentioned a time or two shooting moose with my service revolver, a 4 in Model 28. This guy just distroyed a Van, and was highly POed. He started chasing cars into the ditch. I shot him when he went after my police car. This was one of the reasons I like the Semi Wad Cutters, it worked on him and at least 7 other moose I had to put down.

kraigwy: Good photo and a nice handgun. Hardcast SWC? What was the load you typically used? I am guessing a heavy (for .357) bullet weight? Shot placement or aimpoint? Sorry for all the silly questions. I've never shot a moose, but did feel mildly foolish one time while standing on a forest trail in the Aspens above Salt Lake City...looking at an angry cow and her calf ...

I just got a good laugh outa this, lol. The ," I shot him when he went after my police car", just got me going. I have yet to have to put an animal down while on duty, worst I've had to do was OC a dog who tried to be sneaky, but I understand that ideal about the car. The last pursuit I was in involved me bieng in one of our new squads. The suspect kept swerving at me, so I spent as much ...

I am sure there will be some that will give you a hard time about killing a poor defenseless “Moose” (Bullwinkle) but having spent some time in Alaska, one day traveling on a road I saw what a “young” moose did to a mini van that stopped to admire the Alaska wild life, about 5 feet way from the nice moose. Luckily no one got hurt and when the moose got tired of playing with the car walked off ...

Quote: Hardcast SWC? No Sir, I typically use range lead, my own lube (mixture of: 1 lb parafin wax, 1 lb of Vasoline, and one teaspoon of RCBS Case lube) I load 15 grns of 2400, SPM primers and Lvman's 358477 150 grn SWC bullet. However a couple times I got caught carrying reloads so I had to purchase Winchester 158 SWC Lead 357 loads, ...

I thought the concensus was that 300 winmag was the bare minimum you could use on moose, 338 Lapua and above are better. Oh, and don't forget the camo and anti-scent.

we had a big bull moose chase us in my dads f150 once, we were reversing down the logging road as fast as we could go, the moose chased us for a while!

OzzieMan, moose is very tasty. I had dinner with some friends who brought back some moose meat from a hunting trip to Alaska. It was a roast cooked in a crock pot with potatos and carrots. Yummy.
