Thread: Finally bought an XJ! Cooling issues already hahaha!

Started 1 month, 2 weeks ago by Brady08
After lurking on the forums for a couple of years i decided to finally give up on the toyotas and i bought a '95 XJ sport. It cost 5 grand and come with an alloy bullbar, spotties, radio, 2 inch lift (shithouse), and brand new 31's (shithouse) with a home made rear wheel carrier which is pretty good. Ive given it a decent service and new fluids almost everywhere. It generally runs on the ...

my thermo kicks in but about 3mm past the 100 mark. am thinking a new radiator and external auto cooler. Has anyone played with heat wrapping the intake manifold and extractors and had positive results?

junglejuice replied 1 month, 2 weeks ago
It sounds like the fan to me, in my 95 I am still running the original radiator, thermostat hasn't been changed in the 6 years that I have had it but I have replaced the waterpump due to a leak. When we went to Cape York a couple of months back towing a camper trailer my temp gauge moved for the first time above the normal spot (just below half) and the only time it has been any where near to ...

What make thermo fans do you run junglejuice???? Ive got a 16inch one from Supercheap and it doesnt move as much air as the standard small one on the drivers side.

I bought my fan off ebay and it pulls quite a bit of air, I run my twin fans together in a dual speed arangement. Seems to work well enough. My extractors have a coating on them, don't know how much it helps with the heat though....

worldsend replied 1 month, 2 weeks ago
I put an Adrad in mine, best thing I have done. Keeps it nice and cool.

neddle sitting on 100 is normal. make sure you have a 50 50 mix of coolant and water. the viscus fan is not easy to check, i replaced mine at about 130,000 km. the adrad will help quiet a bit. if you are working it hard in the sand an additional oil cooler on the auto will help as this is where a lot of heat comes from.

First of all congratulations on a great choice of 4x4, you cant beat an XJ and the 95 is best of breed IMO You have done the right thing with the Anrad, it will fix most of your problems, If you want you can run a colder thermostat , if you go too low the computer goes into “Warm Up Mode” and reduces the power from the motor and stops the gear box dropping gears. This defiantly occurs...

I took the thermostat out on friday. It now runs a lot cooler, especially with beach/dune work. Just have to let it warm up good on a cold start

Thanks Taz, Planning to have my radiator checked this coming Tuesday, probably will replace it with Adrad (see pic below, obviously above the normal temp right?). That will be the first step then maybe replace the stock clutch fan...actually interested in installing a thermal fan (should i go with reverse rotation??), quote from this website: http://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/fan-...p-grade-10269/ "Non-thermal fan clutches engage the...
