Thread: Fewer Americans are concerned about global warming, Pew Research Poll? - Yahoo! Answers

Started 1 month, 3 weeks ago by David B
This is almost two weeks old so I appologize if this has been previously asked. A recent pew report indicated that the number of Americans who see global warming as a threat has dropped 20 points (from 77% to 57%)from three years ago. The biggest decline came from those who saw themselves as independents. http://pewresearch.org/pubs/1386/cap-and… What do you think has happened, ...

It's called the media and green movement. It's old news. It's hard to be concerned with global warming when your bills have gone up because the companies decided to go green (without asking you first), your grocery costs have nearly doubled thanks to the green movement, etc. Plus honestly I think people are starting to question the reports. It's frustrating when you hear about global ...

I would say many are more worried about the economy. Some are confused about the difference between weather and climate. For example, from the Rockies east, the US has seen low temperatures all year long, but does that mean there is no GW? The answer, of course, is no, because most of the rest of the planet is much warmer. People are confused and there is a huge misinformation campaign trying to ...

Pretty simple - people tend not to worry about long-term problems when they're focused on short-term problems. For example, when people are stressed out, they tend to eat and smoke more to feel better in the short-term, temporarily ignoring the long-term health effects of these choices. In this case people are worried about the economy in the short-term, so long-term problems like global ...

Nice caveat. I also wouldn't be surprised if more than half of those polled think global warming is caused by CO2 destroying the ozone layer.

People have their eyes open, and they're dealing with excess cold, and December blizzards in October. Then they realize that all of the predictions made by the alarmunists have been... wrong.

Some scientists say there has been no warming during the last 10 to 12 years. Also, Al Gore has lost a lot of credibility. Cap and Trade will initially be revenue if supply and demand are in balance at the start. China recently announced that it will begin dealing with its emissions problems in 2050. And it, among other countries, will probably cheat. No, they WILL cheat.

Interesting because the same independents are running away from Obamascare as well. I wonder if it is related.

People like to believe in something that is logical and makes sense. Since Al came out and said we were all going to die because we were heating up the world, it has been trending cooler (Last 10 years). Hard to follow like a sheep when the prediction is obviously wrong at least for this period in time. More and more scientists and news media are beginning to be not afraid to ask for more ...

Movements have always come and gone, it is just human nature. In the 1960's it was the flower child movement. Against the establishment, won't get a job, that kind of thinking. Just sit around all day and smoke and eat and sleep and sing songs. Then people just moved on to something else. In the 1980's it was save the rain forests, ozone layer, acid rain, and such, now you almost hear ...

A similar poll in Canada came up with basically the same numbers a couple of weeks ago. The number of people who believe there's solid evidence to support agw is dropping. People are taking time to consider the science behind global warming, and educating themselves about it. More and more they're beginning to see it for what it is, dishonest, misleading, and political. The liberals are still anxiously running around yelling...

Fewer are concerned because more realize it's a big lie. Simple. Unless there is a major lockdown on free flows of information, that poll will NEVER go up again.

i think it makes sense - whenever news is most recent, there's bound to be a sort of obsession and over reaction to it. plus, i think people's attentions have shifted from intense doom and gloom over to what can we do about it and making little changes. ie they're perceiving that we're making progress. actually, there's really good film i just saw about exactly that. you might be interested:...

It can only be seen as VERY dangerous. Irrespective of global warming, which may become the coup-de-gras as regards humans, perhaps mammalian species in a broader sense. Mate, the fear campaign seems to be working, globally the people are grumbling with practically identical arguments, loss of employment, loss of whatever. Humans are reaching a critical confluence, and it isn't either far off in time, or even our fault, really; it was...
