New Police two-way radar.
Excerpt:
"Drivers who speed on Victorian roads will soon be the target of more than 200 high-tech radars currently being installed in police vehicles.
"Upgraded Moving Mode Radar (MMR) equipment will allow police to lock on and detect the speed of vehicles travelling towards or away, from distances of up to one kilometre."
NSW have had them for ages, they use ground beam to detect the speed the police car is travelling at and work from there, it would really be a problem if we could still have radar detectors as you would need to have a rear sensor, but as they are illegal it dosent really matter.
Thanks for the heads up.

As long as they don't burn my retina's...
How much do these things cost each? Are the public allowed to procure them (I presume they would be a complete ripoff like anything made for the government..)

Interested in the technology is all. I'm fairly certain they would be mega$ and only available to law enforcement.

it will all get to the point where every corner has a camera and will have tolerances of like .5kmph
ah society, i know speeding kills, but im sure its more of a fund raising for governments then actual safety.
Remembers those speed cameras on the west gate that were going crazy and taking photos of birds and slow moving cars, gold.
Thumbs up for putting money into 'real' policing! Could have just gone to another two pointless speed cameras, whereas if you get ping by these new radars at least you'll get a fair cop who may consider driving records, etc etc and tone down the fine/issue warning etc.

In other news: Quote: Is speed really a killer? PETER MCKAY October 30, 2009 Comments 7 Is speed really a killer? Is speed really a killer? Lobbyists are arguing for an increase in some speed limits to curb boredom and road rage. It's the mantra all drivers learn from the time they first slap on L-plates: the faster you go, the greater your chance of a serious crash. The reasoning is simple. The greater your speed, the less time you have...
