Thread: Feeling guilty - my LO got sick!

Started 1 month, 3 weeks ago by pursemommy
I am just posting really for some reassurance and support. My little guy is just 3 months old.  He is so young!  And Tuesday night he woke up around midnight sick.  He was pitifully crying and had a mild fever (100.9), but he looked like he felt terrible and was flushed and warm.  We got him to the doctor and they deemed it was some viral thing.  He's a little stuffy, sneezy and just tired ...

By breastfeeding him you will pass on antibodies (IgA, IgE, ect) that help to fight off the infection, so he'll get better more quickly than if you were not breastfeeding. The other thing you could do (not sure if you've done it already or how you feel...

Hey, I know what you mean.  My LO got her first cold at 4.5 months -- I felt awful.  Unfortunately, sometimes they're going to get sick no matter how hard you try to prevent it. Hang in there and don't doubt yourself.  Imagine how many times your LO could get sick if you WEREN'T BF'ing...

Thanks.  Yeah, I got the swine vaccine like a month ago, but dragged my feet with getting the seasonal flu shot because I didn't want to wait in line.  But yesterday, when I took my little boy to the doctor, I got my flu shot.

Look at how fast he got to feeling better - that's the power of BFing! You are doing great!

My ped says even with BFing it's normal for them to get little viral things up to ten times in the first year alone. They just aren't immune to anything yet. Your BF helps but doesn't make your LO completely immune. You're doing fine.

I have a school age son (a walking germ magnet), who brought home all sorts of crud when my DD was a tiny infant.  We all went through several illnesses her first winter, but there is no question that she was the least sick out of all of us each and every time.  I would be miserable with a congested head for a week, she might have a few drips from her nose for two days.  I needed high-test cough...

I'm sorry I know it sucks.  It's ok though honey, if they never get exposed to anything then they'll never build up a resistance to anything. When Alaric isn't feeling well we soak in a warm bath together.  Last week was kinda miserable, so we were taking two or three baths per day to help with the congestion.  I finally put my laptop up on the counter and watched cartoons on Hulu to keep ...
