Thread: Fat People Now Illegal in Japan (Should Be Easy to Catch)

Started 1 month, 1 week ago by weirdralph
globalpost.com — In Japan, being thin is the law! People there are fighting fat to comply with a government-imposed waistline standard, as well as to ward off dreaded "metabolic syndrome" -- a combination of health risks including stomach flab, high blood pressure and high cholesterol that can lead to cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

FTA: 'Japan has some of the world’s lowest rates of obesity — less than 5 percent, compared to nearly 35 percent for the United States.' And yet they are taking these harsh punitive measures. And these figures embarrass me.

There go the Sumo wrestlers!

We better start eliminating people who are not blue eyes and blonde hair as well....just for safe measure.

wait till they DO pass some form of govt healthcare here in the US. I believe the obese will be in for some huge sticker-shock penalties. BMR high? that's a premium.

elijahyossie replied 1 month, 1 week ago
Yes, because there are a lot of blue-eyed blondes in Japan.....

If the government is paying for your health care, it's reasonable for them to tell you what and how to eat. That's just how it works.

"Japanese lawmakers last year set a maximum waistline size for anyone age 40 and older: 85 centimeters (33.5 inches) for men and 90 centimeters (35.4 inches) for women." So with a 32 inch waist, I'm considered fit in the US and borderline criminal in Japan (if I were over 40). Great.

That makes sense.. Until you realize how obesity is defined... Personally, when I have been exercising, I weigh 10 lbs more than when I don't. I'd like to know what percentage of Football players are labeled obese by this measurement. Edit: http://www.highbeam.com/doc/1P2-1566900.html 56% of football players BMI should be flushed down the toilet.

you don't have a choice, social engineering at it's core peer pressure. if you don't conform you're going to be outcasted. in this case, you're not going to get health care, whether you're in a private health care system or universal health care system. social norm is going to happen, no matter what. but this moving toward sociology. once you understand what's going on, you won't fear what's going...

lets see, increased medical cost, increased costs in building hospitals (in germany some hospitals now feature super strength operating tables), increased risk and costs for airlines, more need for clothes (more earth depletion and CO2 emisions) generally larger amounts of food (more co2 emisions) increased costs in libraries, public toilets and the like then on public health: the promotion of dieting, the shift in body image in the public as...

So many are eager to regulate and take everything off the market with no understanding of how micro-economics work when you have an inelastic product and also pay no mind to the fact that you are disrupting people's freedom.

O *****. they are not "coming for you". I would object to any "coming", even if it were for people that I hate. BUT, there's a difference in genes and traits. Being fat is generaly speaking a lifechoice (I don't give a *****, addiction, etc.).

If it would reduce the number of Obese in this country I'd be glad to cede responsibility for our health to the government. Clearly something needs to get us off our asses.
