I'm curious about this. I have a friend who is a Christian and he fasts regularly to feel closer to God. He let me borrow a book about it called "Fasting" by Jentezen Franklin that addresses the subject. Apparently there are a lot of scriptures that mention fasting in the bible, and he draws a conclusion from those scriptures that God is pleased with that sort of devotion. I am just wondering ...

I hope all is well with you. Here are some of the scriptures from the book... there are a bunch of them, but I'l post some to start. Thanks for the suggestion. Mathew 6:1-18 (I think the most ...
Here are some more scriptures that are referenced in that book... Job 23:12 Exodus 34:27-28 1 Samuel 1:7 Acts 9:7-9 2 Chronicles 20:3-4, 13 Mark 1:13 Daniel 10:3 Okay...That's enough for now. I don't know how relevent these scriptures are to fasting, but this guy sure does bring a lot of the bible to make his point.
I was listening to talk radio on a christian channel while driving down the road, and this was the subject. The subject of fasting. It's been quite a while so I can't really reiterate what was said, but I did not forget this. But he said that it was only up until the late 1800's when fasting began to disappear from regular christian lifestyle. That it was sinful to be fat and/or over eat. He ...

How do you actually observe the Sabbath Brother Winston? Read the bible and intermittently watch the leaves fall? I'm in no way being offensive (I hope) but are you supposed like sit around and do nothing all day?
little lamb wrote: <quoted text> Yes This fasting is real interesting and like you, was puzzled in how it buolds up faith, because faith comes by hearing. but I suspect it is tied up with the fact , jesus said ' fast in secret and your father will reward you in secret,' so its a reward, and if you do it to be observed by man, then thats the only reward you will get- their applause. So in praying and fasting, its the...
Jackie wrote: <quoted text> Really, I never knew that, how come they never told me about fasting (not that I do not fast, I do). But I was not taught that I should fast, I fast for other reasons. I find this quite disturbing that a church organization would never discuss the subject and encourage the members to engage in fasting quite frequently. That was very much on the front burner in the church that I was a sabbath keeper...

Would be the perfect setting if one is doing it for spiritual purposes. My sister says the first few days are just terrible, you feel awful, plus you hunger, but then suddenly all that goes away and it's easy. This is all sounding pretty wonderful! No, it...
twotoned wrote: <quoted text> Ah, Ok, yes... so he WAS still teaching them. Now, that makes sense. Teaching them that belief and faith is cornerstone, and praying and fasting is essential, especially in the case of expelling demons, in that case, for them. Well, them I'm going to assume that for spiritual purposes, fasting is important. WHich would also lead one to be more mindful and disciplined to not engage in certain...

twotoned wrote: <quoted text> If this is the same verse I'm thinking of, what's interesting is that Yahushua yells at them for not having full faith, then he comes along to wipe out the demon, and then Yahushua tells them "But this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting." I kinda don't understand that. It's like if I'm teaching my toddler how to drink out of a cup and I scold...
When I have blood work done I had to fast 24 hours before my test, the very first of these tests, I thought they meant just food so I drank water but did not eat. When I went in for the bloodwork I was asked if I had eaten or drank anything for 24 hours. I told them I had nothing but water, they could not ttest me because I had drank water, she told me a fast meant no food or water. My question is a spiritual fast, does that mean no food and...

Judged: 1 1 1 Fasting is not essential for salvation. Its not a big issue. Fasting is scriptural for Christians and is an expression of self-denial when we feel the need to get particularly serious with God. As they ministered to the Lord and fasted.-- Acts 13:2 Then, having fasted and prayed.-- Acts 13:3 So when they had appointed elders in every church, and prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord in whom they had...
