Thread: FNP Slide Finish/Metal Treatment

Anyone have experience with FN Pistols? How does the finish hold up? I just read that the FNP pistols use a tungsten-carbide finish on their slides. I am certain that it would be tougher than Tennifer/Melonite.

I'm curious too, I just bought a FNP-40 bi-tone a month ago, I thought the slide was Stainless??

Stainless steel is the metal used for the slide, but I read that it is also given a tungsten-carbide treatment. I don't know if thats the finish or a metal treatment. I do know that tungsten is one of the hardest materials in the world.

I have an FNP-40, but not the two tone. The darker finish (whatever it is) is very durable. I unfortunately had to lock up my Para Ordnance Bigh Hawg and my FNP-40 in the same lock box for a few days. The Para Ordnance now has several scratches and dings. The FNP still looks brand new. That's also not counting that I've had it for a couple of years now as a steady carry weapon and it has no...

"Melonite" or "Tenifer" or "Tuftride" are tradenames for Ferritic Nitrocarburization. I have delved into coatings a bit and I am of the opinion that "Tenifer" is easily the match for W DLC for wear and corrosion.
