In case you don't know Dunham, he's been a ventriloquist for 25 years, has generated 350 million hits on YouTube and, according to Forbes, earned $30 million last year (placing him just behind Jerry Seinfeld and Chris Rock as America's richest comedian). He also earned record-breaking ratings last week for the the premiere of 'The Jeff Dunham Show' on Comedy ...
From what I've seen of him, he's rather pedestrian in the humor department. But, then again, I have a hard time finding a stand-up comedian that I like.
I actually really like these three paragraphs from the OP, as they summarize what I dislike about not just dunham but about many other comedians as well:

Much as with 'Borat,' it's not clear whether or ...

This takedown of that article made my day when I read it earlier this week. I would definitely include myself in the Dunham backlash the OP refers to.
I am so ...
I'm a big stand up comedian fan. There is something to be said about the ability of a person to stand, by himself/herself, and keep an audience entertained.
That said, I'm not a fan of Dunham's. Yes, he is funny. He is also boring. Plus, a couple of his characters are downright annoying. Yes, I'm talking specifically about Peanut.
Brian Regan....now THAT's funny.
I saw him in concert last new years. We all LOVE him in this house.
His humor is pedestrian yes.. but Walter reminds me of my grandmother, Peanut my youngest daughter, Bubba my brother and father (only they were slightly smarter). Fortunately, I've no Achmed's in the family that I know of
We just adore him. And I'm secretly attracted to him (the human, not the puppets).
I find him incredibly boring and moderately offensive (although his boringness adds to the offensiveness). I watched one of his comedy specials (SO's nephew is a big fan, and he was staying with us), and I think I might have laughed once.
He was kinda funny on 30 Rock last week, but I think that's because he wasn't doing his own material.

Controversial? Jeff Dunham? In what universe? I get not liking him but he's about as mild as they come really.
Personally, I find him hysterical. But then, I don't get Dane Cooke at all. Also, I think Sarah Silverman is trying too hard most of the time. So what do I know?

Boring, ok, not your taste, got it. But I stand by my claim that only on say, Playhouse Disney could Dunham really be controversial. Otherwise, he's just a man with a bunch of puppets and multiple personality disorder.
I love Jim Gaffigan too. I watched one of his specials on Netflix instant and had to rewind it more than once because I was laughing so hard I missed jokes. Yeah, from what little I've seen, Dunham's a crap ventriloquist. But is he East Coast or West Coast?
