Thread: Ever eat raw sweet potatoes?

Started 1 month, 2 weeks ago by SoulPainter
I was watching the Neeley's (1st mistake) They were making rainbow coleslaw shredding a variety of vegetables in a processor. They put in a sweet potato. I find this very odd. I have never seen raw sweet potatoes as an ingredient in anything. I wouldn't think it would have much flavor and be a little starchy. Does anyone eat these raw in salads? If so is it good?

I've had a thin slice of a raw sweet potato before, and they're honestly just plain gross. Cooked sweet potatoes are WONDERFUL in my book but to shred them and put them raw in a salad is just nonsense.

Never heard of it before but then I don't eat cole slaw in the first place. I guess if they were shredded really fine and combined with a whole lot of other ingredients, they wouldn't be very noticeable and you would still get the benefit of their nutrients.

Not to be contrite TNF, but why not add an ingredient that has nutritional value and flavor. Please let me know if you need some examples. I have never heard of adding an ingredient not to be noticed just for it's nutrients. If that's all you are after, take a vitamin. Based on the fact that most of the Neeley's recipes are very high in saturated fat, I don't believe nutrients are the priority.

Personally I love sweet potatoes. I am very happy that some restaurants offer them as a baked potato option . My daughter, however, does not like them at all so I sneak them into my chili. I can't taste any change in the flavor with or without them and apparently neither can she because she never comments on any differences when I don't happen to have one available to put in it. Don't ...

I have some in the pantry I've been meaning to steam and mash, I'll slice a bit off and taste when I do. I like raw regular potatoes, but really only for 1 chunk + salt's worth.
