SO i know this has been probably answered a million times before but is there a writeup here how to completly rebuild a block? I have been reading as much as i can and have come across a deal i can't pass up so the rebuild will start Saturday. Well by start i mean i will buy the initiall set of parts. My goals are about 350 hp. Pretty conservative. Most people are saying that stock internals and ...
What happened to the motor that you need to rebuild? You heard right a
stock 4G block will handle 350hp with some power to spare. If you are going
to buy a rebuild kit, I wound not go cheap with parts. 1g rods, 2g pistons,
new rings, new bearings, and of course get everything checked out by a
machine shop if your going to go the full nine yards with the block. Even
that I think is way overkill ...
THanx for the input. I guess what i wasnt with this rebuild more than
anything is a reliable engine which can take some abuse. That was the
concept behind different internals. I don't want to build it tune it up to
350 just to have it fail on me in a month. You said 1g rods and 2g pistons,
will that require any modification to the head? Is there any literature
which is more in depth about engine ...
Hey I can't blame you for wanting a reliable motor. I believe you need to
get the block bored a bit for the 2g pistons with no mods to the head if
I'm not mistaken. As for literature about rebuilds it's ALL over this forum
you just have to look. You can get alot of info on the 1g rod/2g piston
combo. Also try VFAQ.com, it's pretty much a better version of the Hayne's
manual.
So you are saying that 1 g rods will just straight atach to 2g pistons?
that is awesome. Where can i find a cheep crank shaft? How much of a
difference do upgraded cam's make?
Negative sir. Your 1g rods will have to be machined to accept 2g pistons.
Ebay isn't bad, just do a little reading so you know what your getting. Avoid topline parts, they are garbage. Acl and king bearings are cheap on ebay, I like them. Denso, npr is pretty decent stuff. Oem from jnz is the best but most expensive.
What if i went with new 2g pistons and Aftermarket 2g rods? i was looking
into eliminating the balance shaft to but that looks way to dificult for me
to do. I guess what i am getting at is how hard is it to build an engine.
AM i gauranteed to fail my first time.

Yes, the ...
So last night i looked for a factory service manual to buy and all i could
find was a bunch of cd one's on ebay. IS there a place i could buy a paper
one? How much do they run? how bad are the cd ones sold on ebay.
keep away from things that say "race" when buying engine rebuild parts, if you're going to use it as a DD. acl "race" bearrings on DD= no bueno. make sure you completely understand torque sequences as well. label all nuts and bolt, for exactly where they came from. And DO NOT cut any corners when buying parts, or having parts machined.
lol i am still waiting on it to come in. i bought it from amazon. the official name is How to Build Max-Performance Mitsubishi 4g63t Engines. i will let you all know how good of a book it is later and i am actually rather surprised none of you have heard of it.
