Thread: Effect of early Valtrex treatment in primary outbreak?

Thanks for the replies. I'm glad I wasn't the only one that had heard this claim!

I heard the same thing from planned parenthood. They told me to stay on antivirals for at least three months, and it should make outbreaks less frequent. I still get nerve pain so I decided to stay on them for at least a year, or till the nerve pain subsides. I too have ohsv 1 and ghsv 1.

there was animal study showing that high dose of Famvir taken just after infection can stop future ob.( study with mice) when taken at the begining of the 1st ob, it may prevent/lessen the severity of future ob

Not sure to answer your question.. but now I'm happy that it was well over a year before I got on daily Valtrex.. the anti bodies should be there... but i will say... I will gladly take the Valtrex...only prob is my insurance will be changing in the next couple of months... I don't know what that will bring.
