Thread: EBF & food allergies/intolerances

Started 3 weeks, 6 days ago by stephi0024
We are EBF & have been dairy free since DD was 1 month (she is 7 months now).  At 4 months our DD started having specks & sometimes streaks of blood & mucus in her poop.  We have since gone to a Ped. GI specialist (2x).  We first went soy free & it still kept happening but not very often.  We then went wheat, egg, shellfish & nut free and it still happened for the 1st week or so and then stopped...

So we've had dairy intolerance - first diagnosed at 6 weeks with mucousy stools and then a bloody stool.  Lily is 20 months now - and she eats GREAT.  We're mostly dairy free but had been slipping on hidden dairy the last few months.  She just finally started to get better from 6 weeks of diarrhea :(  WHEW - about 4 of those weeks she was having 4-5 blowouts a day... huge amounts of mucous, but ...

My dd just started full day K this year.  At lunch, there is a nut free table (they use separate cleaning rags, etc... for it).  However, the kids do get a snack, which they eat in their classroom.  Everyone brings their own snack from home. The teacher gave me a letter that she would like to send home to the parents.  She gave it to me to review, first, and wanted to know if I wanted ...

Hello, Im not from this board, but I have a one year old that doesnt tolerate soy milk or cows milk, its more of an intollerance than a allergy, only being GI problems no hives or breathing difficulties. What have you guys put your children on instead of soy or cows milk that are of the same nutritional value?

AHMommy22804 replied 3 months, 1 week ago
My dd will be 1 in a few weeks and cant have soy or dairy either. We were told to keep her on the hypoallergenic formula for now. I am not sure what they will recommend later on. Our allergist said that the alternative milks like rice milk don't have the fats they need at this age.

ransomsbabe replied 3 months, 1 week ago
Well, I was told that with my ODD too, but she was annaphylatic to milk and had a bad intollerance to soy, but my YDD seems just to have a intollerance and thought their might be something cheeper i could try, but I guess I will stay with the Allimentum.

My dd will be 1 in a few weeks. She is allergic to dairy, soy, oats. Gets sick after eating carrots, strawberries, cantalope. She doesn't like pasta or rice and this week decided she wont eat baby food or baby cereal. I am having a tough time feeding her! She hated the rice cheese slices and rice milk yogurt we tried. I haven't been able to find a dry cereal for her to have that she likes ...

Thanks ladies! Tankersbabe ~ Gavin has been of Zantac since 7 months...it should ALL be out of his system by now right?? (wow I kind of feel stupid asking this but you never know right?)

anchoragite replied 3 months, 1 week ago
Yes, if he's been off Zantac that long then you don't need to worry about it. Yes, if you are doing skin prick testing than you should have results while you are there for your appointment. At our allergist's they set a kitchen timer once the test is administered and then come back and check when the timer goes off. I can't remember exactly how long it takes, but it wasn't more than half an ...

Tired of orange foods....need help!

If you want something green, try broccoli. It's easy to get, cooks up soft, and the inner part of the stem mashes up smooth pretty easily. Turnips and beets are also relatively low allergenic and easy to work with. My son prefers beets, of course, since they are sweeter. But?be prepared for some alarming looking diapers!

I am top 8 plus 6 other foods - free for my kids while BFing.? I got used to it really quickly and it just got easier over time.? I think of it like if you moved or travelled to a different culture.? The foods would be different, but you would still find new favorite foods and enjoy everthing just fine.? :)

Daycare was feeding him Nuts
Published (2009-12-10 14:30:34)
I completely understand your frustration that your daycare provider is not following your instructions.? I would be upset about that. BUT, if he's eating these foods without reaction, that is good news.? I would let your allergist know that she has fed your DS some of these foods, and according to her, without reaction.? I would push for in office challenges so that YOU and your allergist can watch for reactions.? Perhaps she is missing...

If they are shelled walnuts, they should be safe but always read the label.

Banana allergy?
Published (2009-12-11 02:29:02)
My son is allergic to bananas and projectile vomits if he eats them.? We are fortunate in that his allergist was more than willing to test him for not only to top 8 but also for every 'suspect' food as well as anything else I've asked her to test for.? The only problem is that with my son we have had to go more by reaction than by skin test results because everything came back normal except peas. He is allergic to beef, milk,...

I also had problems with?rice cereal.? I tried Gerber then tried Earth's Best Organic Rice Cereal but the result was the same.? She broke out in hives and was absolutely miserable.? I wanted to try the Happy Bellies brand but was scared to even attempt it.? I've decided to skip the cereals altogether and move onto making my own baby food.? Thanks for the information! K
