Thread: Drivers Door Mechanism

All of a sudden without warning the drivers door wont open from the inside i have to put down the window and open from the outside handle, not removed the door card yet but is this a common fault any input greatly appreciated.

hiya, yes this is a common fault with the springs within the mechanism, basically the springs wear so they dont retract fully, without looking i would have said you can get replacement springs but unsure, contact my mate bananahead (on my friends list) he has a disco for breaking so he might still have the locking mechanism. good luck phil

If it is the spring the knob will be all floppy in either the up or down position, you can but them on the bay. About £15 for a set for all five doors. The springs are handed, the rear ones are easy the front a little harder as you have to get the door lock off to do the job. Oh, and the spring breaks, normally due to rust, now there's a thing, rust on a LR ha ha. Kevin

Lock springs are a D1 issue not D2. D2's have a completly different type of lock with a combined central locking actuator and not usually repairable.

You will have to take the door card off and look.... maybe the connecting rod or clip has come adrift.
