Thread: Download not started

Started 2 months, 2 weeks ago by Mc.
In SM2, if I try downloading the download manager opens, but it says Not started and shows the cancel button. If I hit it, the retry button appears and I'm able to start the download. A bug?

There is an error: Error: Could not convert JavaScript argument arg 2 [nsIWebBrowserPersist.saveURI] = NS_ERROR_XPC_BAD_CONVERT_JS Source file: chrome://communicator/content/contentAreaUtils.js Line: 448

URL of the file that causes this to happen?

I tried download now as administrator, with all my extensions disabled and enabled and it also ends in Not started, but now I see the issue just with xpi files from AMO. I'm quite sure it was the same with mozdev files, but mysteriously today any download from there starts at once without an error.

Mc. replied 2 months ago
If I use "Archive XPI" of MR Tech Toolkit, download from AMO starts at once. It doesn't use the download manager, though. You get it in the context menu if you load a file from View Older Versions.

Today it happened that some downloads of xpi files from AMO started immediately, most not. The started downloads were from http (releases.mozilla.org) , the not started from https (addons.mozilla.org).

New insights after some downloads from mozdev: Not started if the download is from mozdev.org. Immediately started if the download is from a mirror. So downloads from AMO may start...

Error: Could not convert JavaScript argument arg 2 [nsIWebBrowserPersist.saveURI] = NS_ERROR_XPC_BAD_CONVERT_JS Source file: chrome://communicator/content/contentAreaUtils.js Line: 478 There is a bug about contentAreaUtils.js. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=48461 6 I could imagine people there should know about this error.

Right. When I was looking before, there were a number of possible bugs that may cover this situation. That was one I had looked at. That's also why I inquired as to a revised error, because the particular code referenced from that earlier build is no longer found in contentAreaUtils.js.

Do you know if increasing this value might have any negative effects? Fred I don't think so. It was discussed to increase it for Fx (where it doesn't have the same impact as in SeaMonkey) up to 3000. The only reason to set it as...

I messed around with browser.download settings and may have found the cause and solution of the issue. Seems download doesn't start if the "Save as" window opens before the download starts. That can easily happen on my slow connection. When I increase the value of browser.download.saveLinkAsFilenameTimeout from default 1000 to 10000 download starts first, the file is stored and there is no error. So an easy fix of the...
