Thread: Dooley install: no clamps for pipe joints?

Started 2 months, 3 weeks ago by CWCobra
I installed Roadhouse Dooleys today, and was surprised to note that the instructions did not call for any clamps at any of the three pipe junctions. I have installed many exhaust systems on cars, and have always had better luck when pipe joints are clamped. What's different about Dooleys? Maybe leaks are no big deal on a bike?? I am stumped. Cw

There are two clamps that go on the joints that hold the actual mufflers on and then the heat shield clamp acts as a joint clamp on the cross over by where the key used to be.

Maybe the heat shield clamps serve double duty as pipe joint clamps. Doesn't seem like it would be very effective against leaks, tho'.

Got mine at Direct Line Parts...they had a 20% off sale after Thanksgiving. The "Marble" mod is so called due to using a marble or some other stopper to plug the air tube inlet to the PAIR vlave assembly, thereby rendering it useless. Mucho easier than removing entire PAIR system, only to find that wasn't the problem. If I find that PAIR valve is the problem, I might go ahead and remove it. ...

By plugging the air tube with a marble, you're gonna get condensation buildup in the rubber hoses, creating more problems...Best to just do it right the first time...

True, but if it doesn't solve my problem, I really don't want to bother with it. Marble in / marble out. If the marble solves my problem, then I'll go ahead and rip out the entire PAIR assy. If the marble doesn't solve...

The crossover clamp does hold the heat shield as well when I tightened it down I it stopped the joint from moving at all.
