Thread: Do You read the threads?

Started 1 month, 3 weeks ago by J-A-W-P
Because I have a lot of work I should be doing right now, I started wondering (wandering?) how many regulars read the all the responses to a given query before posting an answer...I mean, there are times when two people will post almost identical replies within minutes of each other, which is understandable. More baffling to me is when somebody will immediately respond to an...

Sometimes I don't, sometimes I respond to try to get the discussion back on track, and sometimes I start to respond, get distracted, and finally post it 15 min later, after others have already responded.

Sometimes I start a response and then get busy doing something else. I minimize the started response on the computer screen and maybe come back later to finish it. I try to go back and see if anything major has happened there since I first read the question before posting, but I don't always. Just happened on the thread about Melville. While I was doing something else, I think it was ...

Ah ..... what did you just say. Oh yeah ..... okay so you take the 'Airtrain' to 'E' train at Jamaica and then switch for the BQE. But first you should read the FAQ sticky on the top of the forum. BTW ..... I hear a lot of good stuff about the Marriott and have a great trip. :) (Of course I never read the threads ..... that would just cloud my creative process)

If I reply to a post I do read the entire thread for the very reason you state. Otherwise, for me it is just a waste of time for me and the OP.

LOL. It happened here (with Al and me) and it was MoreFFmiles on the Melville thread. So, umm, uh where did you need to go??? Btw, Jawp, how was the Halloween party and did you find the Greek hat at that place???

there is 1 poster here who is so wacko and off base (and never answers any question, just adds snark) I will often ignore the tangent they created and bring it back to the normal topic... but I just had an experience with the regular a-hole on the Paris forum who basically castigated another one of my posts because he didnt clearly read the OP's post... The OP asked for ...

yeah - I just had the Melville experience too! There was no reply when I replied, but by the time I hit submit, Al had already provided the right link.... or the other one this morning, where I answered the guy's post about cars or cabs from Newark at the same time he was saying he got a $5 off coupon, which completely contradicted my post that the cost would be the same or better for a...

I do read the posts before I do my response. However, it sometimes takes me a while to type as some of my posts tend to be somewhat long winded. By the time I finally hit submit, there are two or three others who have snuck in under the wire. Thus, my timely post has lapsed into redundancy. Perhaps the OP should have an option as to how he or she wants the responses. Sugar ...

Threads - we don't need to read no stinking threads! I'm with everyone else - you can read a thread and by the time you reply you're too late.....whatever. And Mel, I've got some E.S. loaded up but it seems there are a lot of sensitive Sams and Sallys on the Forum recently who take offense even to lightherated ribbing - what is one to do? What's on for ...

Poppa you may be ES, but at least you have substance and information to impart... Im talking about the crochety person who has a snarky reply to every post, but never imparts any useful info....
