In high school, I provided a note from home stating that I would like to
opt out of dissection, and complete an optional assignment instead. There
were three of us.
i never had to dissect an animal, i dont think either of the High Shcools i went to even had dissection in any of their courses. I do remmber in 5th grade training a mouse to go through a maze. My teacher said to remember they were living beings and to not harm them. She found dead mice in the cage(we think they attacked eachother!!)and was very upset...she was such a kind woman. I remember ...
The 200-level college Biology class I'm teaching this semester traditionally uses 2 cruel animal labs to learn about fertilization and development- one with living chick embryos and one with living sea urchins. Mostly observational stuff- the students would remove the chick embryos from the shells and identify developing structures, put the sea urchins in a toxic solution to force them to shed ...
We weren't meant to do dissection in my first year of Secondary School (11 years old). The reason they were meant to do it wasn't because it was to teach you something, but so you could see what real live organs looked like...fortunatly, we never did this...but I remember loads of the people begging the teachers to let them dissect.
We dissected a pigs kidney in college...I wouldn't do ...
Okay, so here's my dilemma. I'm in college and I have to take a science next semester. I haven't met with my advisor yet, but I know I am required to take Biology. I know my college does dissection, but I wonder if I can talk to my advisor to see if there is a professor who either doesn't do dissection or will allow me to do something else instead. If not, what can I do? Can I state that my ...
I didn't personally dissect any animals. But in 4th grade I watched my group dissect a squid (and one odd little boy eating the tenticles...)
In 7th grade I would not dissect a frog in bio, and they had this little waiver telling us how we had the right to refuse to dissect if it was against our beliefs (maybe your school has that too foxy ?) and said we had the ability to do an online ...

Quote: Teen Changes Her Name To CutoutDissection.com AP) A 19-year-old Asheville teenager said she legally changed her name to CutoutDissection.com to protest animal dissections in schools. The Asheville Citizen-Times reported that Asheville High graduate Jennifer Thornburg now wants to be called Cutout. Her new legal name is the Web address for an anti-dissection page of the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals' site. The...
I remember in High School we were supposed to dissect a frog and I physically couldn't do it. They said anyone who doesn't do it gets an automatic F. I think that was totally F%&*ed up. Then in college for another class they wanted you to dissect a fetal pig. I almost threw up no freaking way. So long story short another Failing grade. Good thing I can get by on my cooking.(ha ha). I think that they should take into...
