This is the final 'great' development that we have been waiting to see in the Middle East....imho. The rise of the Ottoman Empire is huge. The Kings of the East (China and Indo-china) are already staged for go, but the raising up of the Ottoman Empire seemed unlikely until recently. Incredible.....

Considering the position Turkey holds in NATO and geographically and taking into account one alleged coup plot, if this continues, I'd expect to see the Turkish military stepping up and taking over again. Another consideration, if the Turks were to take a more "active role" in the region, they've got the manpower, location and industrial base to run a lot of the area as a "protectorate"....
