I had unplugged my desktop from the power outlet for a day. Now when I power on the desktop it does not power on and I can see no hard drive light on. Everything else connected to the desktop turns on as expected.
I have tried unplugging everything from the desktop and holding the power button down for almost a minute but it did not do anything and the PC still does not turn on.
How can ...

Is the power button LED, solid green, blinking green, solid amber, blinking amber, or off?
Check the sequence of the diagnostic lights on the back panel of the case.
The 8400 Diagnostic Guide and Troubleshooter is HERE .
Are there any error messages, or 'Beeps'?
Bev.
The power light is off and the diagnostic lights are all off and show no color.
I plugged the power cord in the pc and the diagnostic lights don't show any color change. Are these lights supposed to show color sequences even with the pc unplugged from power outlet? In both cases(plugged and unplugged) I don't see any color change so not sure how to troubleshoot this beyond this point....
Try your power cord on something else just to verify the plug fuse hasn't gone.
Otherwise it's almost definite the the power supply in your PC has failed

First open the case and check that the 24-pin and 4-pin [P2] connectors are properly connected to the motherboard and are not burnt, or charred.
No difference, try installing a different power supply.
You can use most standard ATX PSU's with a 24pin or 20 + 4-pin main motherboard power connector and no on/off switch and two SATA power connectors. If a PSU with a on/off switch, ...

Assuming the connectors are properly connected and not burnt, are you suggesting that I get another power supply like or the one you suggest and also get a power connector as you mentioned i.e. You can use most standard ATX PSU's with a 24pin or 20 + 4-pin main

I checked the power connections and nothing is burnt and the connections look proper. Is there a way to test the power supply once I remove it from the PC just to verify that it is not working? I would hate to get another one, put it in and find out that something else is wrong in the pc.

If you are comfortable working around computers, you could try the following: Note: The only 100% method of testing a PSU, is to install a know working power supply. Unplug the cord from the power supply, hold the power button in for about 15/20 seconds, open the case, unplug the 24-pin power connector from the motherboard and jump the Green wire to one of the Black wires, reconnect ...
chris14029:
can that power supply be used for a inspiron 530???
chris14029
For the Inspiron 530 MT , most generic standard ATX power supply units, can be installed, with either a 24-pin or 20+4-pin main motherboard power connector, with or without the on/off switch. You should be able to buy a compatible power supply from either a local or online computer store. Note: You...
