Thread: Differences between Arima W840 DI and Clevo D901C

Started 1 year, 1 month ago by DPMan
What are the main differences between: Arima W840 DI and Clevo D901C From what I have read the Clevo uses a desktop CPU but how much speed difference will you be able to notice if getting the X9100 in the Arima vs. the Q9650 in the Clevo? Are (2) 512MB CROSSFIRE ATI HD3870 DDR3 DX10 GPU's going to out perform the 1,024MB PCI-Express nVidia Quadro FX3700M DDR3 DX10? I assume the ...

The Q9650 is a 3.0GHz desktop quad. It will annihilate every mobile chip out there. I would say that dual 3870s would beat a single FX3700M. The Quadro cards are meant more for work stations.

This is going to be one ridiculously expensive laptop. Why are you building such a powerful laptop when you can build a better desktop for half the price?

Have to second joshua on this one. I think the processor alone will be over one thousand dollars at least...

I have contemplated getting a desktop then a lightweight laptop but it seems in the end its gonna cost the same because I want the laptop to still perform well with multi-tasking when doing work (photoshop, IDE, browsing, FTP + other apps all at once).

Out of the two laptops which would you choose and why?

with the Clevo D901C, you can still get SLI 9800M GT's... a number of vendors still have that option, like: - www.pro-star.com - www.eurocom.com .... and their resellers.

DPMan replied 1 year, 1 month ago
I use my laptop for work as well. I don't like the fact that some of these sager/etc resellers don't offer on-site service with overnight/2-day parts shipping. Do any of them offer this? Makes it a bit easier when I can get it fixed in 3 days rather than a week+

If I go the whitebook route I have seen some people discussing waiting for the 4xxx ATI cards. Any idea when those might be available for it?

I was not hold my breath that the ATI 4000 series cards will be supported by that system. There is no ETA on the high-end cards... mid-range cards for the time being.
