Thread: Dieselsite Coolant filter installed - 6.0 Van

Started 2 months, 1 week ago by ridintall
I installed a coolant filter in my 2004 6.0 van today. I felt it a good idea after having the oil and egr coolers replaced and finding oil and black flakes in the reservoir bottle after every drive. I bought it from Dieselsite who recommended I get the 6.4 kit as it came with extra hose. I actually needed another 5 ft piece of 3/8 hose in order to make it work. I ran all the hose and ...

Is there an easy way to check the oil level in the HPOP on the vans? Most of the oil in the valley was towards the rear. The front of the valley near the HPOP was actually dry.

blageurt replied 4 months, 2 weeks ago
You check the oil in the HPOP the same way on all PSD's you remove the little plug on the top of the HPOP resevoir at the front of the engine , and look inside with a light or stick . If it is about 1 inch from the top after cranking for awhile it is Ok . . . if not you need to fill it with oil ( capacity is about 1 litre) and try to start it again ) did you pull any codes from it ?

The oil in the HPOP looks fine (1/2 inch from the top of the reservoir). I don't have a code reader but I guess now would be a good time to buy one. I'll try and pick one up tomorrow. Thanks for your help.

Someone did a post on this just a couple of weeks ago. Maybe you can find by searching or just go back a few pages. Dann

ok well i had been having intermittent problems with my van starting, partially due to a loose terminal, which i replaced, and didn't fix the problem. today i went back under and decided to check the starter itself. i was about to disconnect it and gave a slight tug on the hot terminal, and it pulled right off with no resistance! i had to go pick up my girlfriend from work (borrowed her ...

Thanks, I'll give them a call. I want to monitor the coolant temp and oil temp so I can see if my oil cooler is getting clogged up. These two temps should be within 15 degrees and mine got up to 17 degrees when I had a tech scan my truck last month. I have already had the EGR cooler and head gaskets changed 2 years ago. Lately there have been some clogged oil coolers reported and I saw a ...

Diesel Bronco Has anyone tried to put a diesel engine out of an E350 van ambulance in a full size Bronco? I have the Bronco and know where I can get the diesel ambulance for a reasonable price. I am just wondering what I would be getting myself into. Does anyone have any suggestions on major problems I would encounter? Thanks, Kevin...

You want those glow plugs working. That's another reason to plug in the block heater, it could help a lot and if you could get it warm enough it might even start without the glow plug relay working. If your ignition is not working you are not getting power to the relay and in turn your glow plugs. You want both, the glow plugs and the block heater ideally. When you are having trouble you most certainly want both and a heated garage to go...

It depends on the year. 94-97 are the 4 bolt type in Trucks and Vans. 98 and up have the clamp style like you noticed. The van turbos have no wastegate , the Truck ones do after 99. I would just replace the donuts and bolts. Alot cheaper... International makes a set-up that eliminates the donuts . I think they are refered to as "bellowed" up pipes. Whether they fit , I have no idea ...

Thanks, wade. Question: If it makes no difference in the performance of your van, what's it's purpose?

I'd be tempted to spend some more and put in Transfer Flow 46 gallon tank. Mike

Yeah I'll keep plugging away, I got no excuses really. I've got a little coleman blackcat catalytic propane heater I can hook up to a 30lb bottle, that would make it plenty nice. We get some cold snaps, but if you get a sunny afternoon it isn't bad. The vans are versatile, I'll still have enough space between the boxes for a sheet of plywood, and with the EXT I can stick a 12' long board in there and still close the...

I have not cut it open yet but I do have it still and plan on it. I did however pour out what was in the filter and a noticeable amount of sand and black flakes did collect at the bottom of the bottle. I can post a pic once i've done it.
