Thread: Dell Download Manager - Updated Bios - System Crashed - Black Screen...

Hello all, Well, that is about the gist of my problem. I used the Dell Download Manager to update my Bios, (Inspiron 5315 running Windows XP Home Edition) as Dells site recommended, and it started the update process and finished by crashing my system with a black screen with the CPU running and making a buzzing sound! I am sooooo happy I am beside myself!!! Anyone have any idea what I can do ...

If what you're saying is that the BIOS update started, crashed but didn't finish, and you're left with a system that won't boot up, you need a replacement mainboard, assuming this is a notebook (it's not clear from the model number that it is, since I don't think there is an Inspiron 5315).

My husband go this inexpensive system from Walmart when my other system, the one I am working on now, had some issues and was in for repair. It was probably made for Walmart specifically.

You can try the CMOS clear jumper to try a reset: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/insp d531/en/OM/parts.htm#wp1595069

Unfortunately, I think that is beyond my level of expertise, especially since I only seem to have enough expertise to get me in trouble. Like following Dell's recommendation. I just can't imagine how you run an update that Dell recommends and this happens! And, of course, Dell won't help you unless you pay them. This isn't THAT old of a computer. Sharilee21 If the inspiron 531 still has a warranty in effect, you could try contacting Dell's Technical Support about this. Bev.
