Thread: Decisions, Decisions, Decisions!

For those of you out there that use iPods/mp3 players, and have vast music collections, how do you choose what to sync to your players? While my music collection is very humble compared to some people I know (I have less than 20gb @ 128kbps AAC), I still find it VERY difficult to choose what to transfer and what not to. I have an 16gb iPhone 3G that just barley doesn't hold all of music. I'm just...

iPod library strictly based on mobility; music to drive to, music for the el/CTA bus, music for when I'm out walking around, anything to make a commute a less unpleasant experience. Many of my favorite albums are not on my iPod because they're not necessarily albums I want to listen to during rush hour. I do leave a little space for a playlist for an anticipated occasion which may include temp ...

I tend to load up my MP3 player (a 30 GB Creative Zen Vision:M) with whoever happens to be my musician du jour . Lately, I've been listening to lots and lots of Ellington -- both at home and on the go -- so the player is loaded with tons of Duke. Plus, I tend to load newer stuff that I've recently purchased, so I can get to know it. (Plenty of time for listening during my daily commute to ...

Well that's easy. . . first priority on my iPod is music my girlfriend likes, because it's primary use is to be driven through a Wadia ITransport into the Peach Audio Decco DAC/integrated amp in the bedroom. So it has her favorite chillin' out music, her favorite romantic music, and some of my favorite of the same. And because there's a lot of space left, some of my favorite music for ...

I hope you don't mind me asking, but how long can such a thing play before you'll have to recharge it? So how many hours/what amount of time do you have the pleasure of listening? I do not want to have to recharge in the middle of something. I only have this mp3 player with just a bit of capacity, so I don't use it much. I'm ashamed to tell you how much, when I see your figures.

Mine mostly gets used in the bedroom, staying in its Wadia iTransport cradle, being trickle charged all the time. When I use it out it's usually just for my four mile walk, so about an hour or so. But I have known it to last about five or six hours from a full charge. I also have a 60 G.

Thanks for all the replies! I think I've decided to solve my dilemma by just upgrading my storage capacity. That will come in time, however. For the time being, I've decided to only sync the stuff I haven't listened to yet, ie, the stuff that I just recently acquired. It' getting me away from the same group of albums/artists that I had been listening to and getting me to broaden my listening. ...

Well thank you for the title! But. . . I'd prefer just to have a raise! I definitely am a happy, lucky man. My bubble may burst, but I'm inside it now.

No, you can use iPods on your PC as long as you've got iTunes, which you can download (free) here

I currently use an 8g ipod so I usually keep a variety of different stuff on it and have just got used to changing the selection around, usually once a week.
