Thread: Decision time - side mounts and red dots.

Started 1 month, 2 weeks ago by FloridaPhil
This reminds me of the old phrase "I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure". I am STILL looking into side mounts and optics for my AK. Here's where I am: RED DOTS I have been considering both the PK-23 line and the PK-AS red dot. A member here said he bought the PK-23 but has not posted any feedback other than the mount was loose. There doesn't seem to be a lot of ...

Sorry it took so long Phil. Any ways, so far I have only had the PK23 out once but absoloutey loved it. It took me a little while to get it sighted in. I am not used to having a red dot that sits over the irons. Once it was in it was awsome. The red dot pulsates wich make it alot easier to find the dot and the target. I have got a new retaining clip but have not put it on yet. I would highly ...

Have you considered an Ultimak rail/gas tube? The Ultimak would allow you to mount a dot sight "scout style" while co-witnessing your iron sights. No need to adjust your cheek weld or comb height to get a proper view through the sight. The Ultimak & M3 clone combo would come in at the same price as as the M3 & KVar combo: $167.

Wow! That is a heckuva deal for the Ultimak/M3 combo! If you're going for the traditional look on this rifle, I'd stick with one of the PK sights. The M3 clone would kind of kill the overall traditional look, IMO. The PK-AS would look the most "at home" on a traditional style AK.

It is a side mount but the scope it self sits right above the dust cover about, I dont know like 2 or 3 inches above so that if your batteries do die you can just lower your head a little and pick up your irons. You might be able to see what I am talking about from this pic.
