What happens when a forum regular dies? The question always came to mind whenever I used to frequent these forums. It is morbid and strictly a curiosity question but I still haven't really answered it properly. To the forum, all that happens is the posts stop, and that happens for a lot of reasons, so they wouldn't really have any reason to suspect the worst, unless a family member who knew ...
In most cases of a death, we'd never notice. They'd just have presumably stopped posting and we'd forget about them after some months with no real concern.
I've seen it happen... but usually when I've just been lurking for a short time, so the death usually means little to me... But if you got a major poster that's well-known and liked, it can affect the others... but just for a short time to pay their respects... after that, life marches on. This is also one place where internet stalking works to one advantage... you'd find out. There won't be ...
This is why, if and when I get to forming a last testament, part of it will include contact information of certain net friends that I'll want to be informed. I've thought a lot about what would happen if I ever found out one of my closer online friends died, and what my response would be. It's a strange thing to contemplate your individual reaction.
There was a website I saw maybe two weeks ago that, in the case of you dieing or something catastrophic happening, they would post or somehow inform X websites that it happened. It was $30 for it.

It was $30 for it. Damn. I should have done that. Make millions off the emo-types who always attempt suicide and announce it online but never have the...
QUOTE (DNA.Styx @ Sep 20 2009, 09:14 AM) Wavehawk, I would miss you because you are a fan of Kamen Rider Decade. D--don't start giving my conscience guilt feelings, now. I'm Catholic! I have enough emo guilt to last my great-grandchildren until the apocalypse!!!
QUOTE (Shadowblade Edge @ Sep 20 2009, 05:29 PM) Depends on how loud they are I imagine. I believe Rox rose to infamy in about 300 posts, and I sure you'll forget about me after you finish reading this. By the way is Whistler dead? His mother doesn't look too clever . . .
QUOTE (Escher @ Sep 20 2009, 11:06 PM) "[The Internet] is like a sewer. What you get out of it depends on what you put into it." Analogies are like blind boxers; they might be as physically fit as their opponents, punch as fast and hard, but that helps little if all they hit is air.
Yeah, it is a bit serious actually. But I was interested to see the range of responses. I would like to play your game, but I do not know who forum regulars are now, having not visited for several years. that said, Forumite A:guys, Char died! Forumite B: Dang. Forumite C: I hope his family will keep uploading idol pics to his ftp.
QUOTE (T3h Br0th3r @ Sep 21 2009, 03:02 AM) sounds like a fun game... till someone gets pissed "Did you guys hear! Obama shot FEpower in the face!" "I told him that avitar was a bad idea. The Pres keeps it real . Heh, that would require him to actually know how a firearm works, and not shoot himself in the foot like he has with all his policy decisions.
I'd imagine we'd be respectful for the first couple weeks, then find other things to amuse ourselves with. If we gave a damn at all [as there are far too many forumites who are doing things like going off to school and getting lives and stop posting here anyway.
This is the internet. We only care for as long as socially acceptable time allows. Even then, we don't really. It's egotistical to think that when you die someone on the internet will give a damn. It doesn't matter if you're a president or the King of Pop or just some shmoe getting through the day on a nine-to-five. You die, you're worth at most a few pages of forum concern, and then it's back to poop jokes and...
QUOTE (bscar @ Sep 20 2009, 03:07 PM) Atleast make sure if you die, to do so so yo become a meme for a little while. I've done this. Just look at Shin-ichi's sig. :3 I WILL NEVER DIE~
