I watch today's episode, and I was more depressed than ever before. I know that we are in a bad economy, but do we need to see that on the soaps today? When Jack visited Mike today, why did they go all sad on us with the state of the economy? Why didn't they just show us that Mike is getting by ok instead of really making me already angry and depress about the state's economy. We watch soaps ...
I haven't watched today's show yet. I had the day off with my husband for the holiday so we were out today. However, so far I'm thrilled with the work DK has done on ATWT. I will watch the eppie when it's up on CBS later and post. The economy however, has effected many families. Many of you know my husband was laid off in March of this year. Thankfully he found a great job with the State this ...
I did not have a problem with it at all. I think it is essential to have some grounding in reality and sadly, hard times is the state of reality. I have often complained about unemployed people in soaps living well, it is refreshing to see a little reality thrown in from time to time.
I liked it. We have a lot of posters who would like to see a whole lot more of this, which I don't really want. This however is just a short part of the story and doesn't even last beyond this week so that works for me to bring in some realism but not overkill to the point it's depressing. I'd suggest letting it play out this week before really judging it because perhaps it will have a happy ...
I agree. I would rather watch my soapy stories than stories revolving around food shelters and lay offs. I watch soaps for the escapism element not for gritty realism.
Today's episode felt like something out of Guiding Light and I don't mean that in a good way. I always found GL depressing. If we start seeing scenes in a run down convience store on a daily basis then I might be done.
I liked the dose of reality. I would find it hard to relate to characters who are still running around in designer clothes and throwing money around like it's candy when most of us are watching every penny and hoping that our blue jeans hold out another month. Certainly there are a lot of better reasong to can a head-writer.
I was happy to see Mike with a beautiful wife and child living in Greenville, SC -- my county seat!!
I liked that Mike's situation mirrored the lives of so many Americans, honest people who gave an honest day's work only to lose it all through no fault of their own.
I'll take this realistic type of story any day over the I-have-so-much-money-Montgomery-Burns-James-Stenbe ck stories that ...
I liked it, too. I wouldn't want to see it every day, though, but this was good for a very short story arc. I don't think Mark Collier (Mike) is back on contract, I think he was just brought in temporarily for the Jack story.
I gotta admit, this has to be a first in soap history - a character getting a phone call from a collection agency!
I thought the scenes were very realistic and well-...
^^^I agree that things have slowed down. They also seem to be moving past the episodic writing and things aren't tied up in a neat little bow by the end of the show. Things actually carry over to the next show! I'm seeing some people that got so used to the fast pace that they want things to speed up again. I think we've seen some real positive improvements from where things were a few months ago.

I just finished watching the episode. My vote remains unchanged. I thought it was handled well. This is an issue that many people are dealing with and it was nice to see them touch on it. I agree it doesn't need to be in every episode. At the same time I think people need to know they are not alone. Very well done.
There is nothing wrong with realism and doing it ever now and then, but I am scare because this is what P&G did to GL last year with the outdoor shots and the limited budget and I don't want to see that with ATWt because the show is doing really good, except for whining Meg.
^^As a 36+ year viewer of GL I understand where you are coming from but this 'tour' that Jack is doing doesn't even come close to what GL changed to as far as filming goes. That was a permanent fixture to save money - this 'tour' that Jack is doing is to save himself.
I agree WorldTurner..This summer the s/l were so fast you didn't know which end was up most of the time or why some characters were doing what they were doing...If you missed 1 episode then you were lost for a couple of days...Just look at Dr. Bob and Kim's s/l..They were done in 3 days when it should have been weeks..
