my dd is 7.5yo and there are lots of sleepover and slumber party invitations here also. If I don't feel comfortable, I don't allow it. What you're describing would not be okay with me. Yes, just make excuses. How does your dd feel about it? Does she understand your reservations? The thing is, at this age, it's hard to totally lie and then try to explain to your child why you are saying no.

Alloww your ds to go, but pick him up at 11:00pm. Give an excuse- like early morning app't. You do want your ds to be included in the crowd and invited to parties.

He usually understands but he is insistent about getting explanations for everything we do - which is good I suppose. At any rate, you're right, we should include him in our thinking and communicate.
