Thread: Crazy E320 wiring harness part numbers

Started 1 month, 1 week ago by lostinspaceandtime
Hi all. New here (kind of.) I've been reading everything I can find and using EPC (awesome tip) and I STILL can't get an answer to my riddle. I had the ubiquitous harness insulation issues and they were BAD. Had to replace the whole thing. Ordered part no. 124-440-29-33 aka W0133-1715517 according to my chassis number (C187417.) By all accounts this should be the proper harness, but it ...

Shall we assume you are in North America? What was the part number of the old harness? You shouldn't have to do any modifications - should be able to lay the new harness right out over the old, same wires, connectors, etc. There is a footnote, for North America, to indicate that someone screwed up the record keeping on the part number break.

Sorry, yes, I am in North America. I noticed that footnote, it is the one I was referring to in my original post. My chassis number was close, but still different. Am I to assume that because someone made an error in the record keeping for that part number break, that all of those part numbers may be suspect? That would ease my mind tremendously. I have the original harness, but have been ...

If you've inspected the entire old harness for a part number and see none then a tag has fallen off, which could still be in the vicinity. There's also the possibility of an engine swap if you're not the original owner. Russian vin site will give the original engine number for your VIN. Mercedes-Benz Club Russia | Mercedes-Benz / VIN

Ok, I used that site and I got a bunch of information, but how do I translate that into the original harness part number? There are no tags on my old harness - only red and blue tape. I am not the original owner, but am 99.9% certain that the engine is original. I know that the last six digits of the VIN give me the chassis number, and that is what all of the parts dealers are using to ...

Red and blue tape sounds a little strange, like someone has been repairing it, or built it from scratch. The Russian site tells you only your original engine number, which should the number on block, lower front passenger side I believe. Your engine number is sometimes the basis for ordering parts, but not in this case.
