I was stuck at my desk, so busy that I actually closed the blinds to stop seeing the blue sky that I should have been up in. I did however have the VHF set on in the background listening to some old fart in the vicinity of Cumbernauld doing his thinking while pressing the button. Having ther radio on as much as possible helps my r/t by making sure I have heard lots of examples of how not ...

The nearest aerial for you would either be Craigowl Hill north of Dundee or Lowther hill north east of Dumfries so doubt from a ground station you would hear me....arent you lucky!

How's the new desk?

I was up enjoying the great viz and calm winds, dodging helimed, other VFR GA traffic and an MR2. Was going to call Scottish but managed to just hold onto Inverness APP throughout. All in all a fantastic day

Blackpool to Fife & back in fantastic weather today and a helpful & friendly service from Scottish for most of the way. Carlisle must have been feeling a bit lonely though - cant imagine why else they wanted to talk to me as I passed 10 miles West at 4500 with the only other traffic working them in the circuit.

You got the nice stuff we had yesterday down here in the south. It was lovely. Mad busy at Headcorn when we flew in for a tea.

fbw, Is the Lowther Hill aerial just for 119.875? Reason I ask is that we can talk to you OK dropping into Dumfries but a few nights ago I lost 124.5 descending through 3000ft. They had to make some phone calls to make sure we were OK...

Crikey MFC Fly, what fuel do they use in an MR2 in Scotland. Mine uses ordinary unleaded and flies with a QFE of 0 ft all the time. On the other hand mine's a Toyota and the one you were dodging was presumably one of Bae's finest (?).

mad_jock replied 1 month ago
The MR2 MFC is on about is a mystery as to the fuel. With the amount of black shite kicked out the back it must be a coal tar / paraffin mixture. Fisbangwallop has any one had a look at sticking a transmitter ontop of Cairngorm. You already have power up there and coms. Would chop a huge chunk out of the dead zone in the spey valley and Great Glen and presumably into the Dee ...

Quote: don't think it will help down there but at least we will still be able to speak to you passing Glenshee. Glenshee not normally a problem as the Craigowl TX/RX site gives good coverage around there....mind you I guess if you are down on one of the ski runs then could be a little scratchy!!

Carlisle International Zulu Mike Your comment re Carlisle ATC - had a similar recently, and went there. Not a criticism, always like to see airfields raising the game, but it does appear to operate a bit like Heathrow nowadays. Possibly why they like to moniter far off passing VFR.
