Thread: Could my car be written off?

Started 1 month, 4 weeks ago by imapctuk
Hey, i was involved in an accident the other day where a guy went straight into the front passenger wing and bumper. He has accepted responsibilty for the accident and the car has just been taken to get assesed a couple of hours ago. The passenger door doesn't open, the steering seems a bit off and the car is in great condition. Well it was up untill the crash. Just wondering if my car could...

Most likely a write off I'd say. You're wheel doesn't look perfectly straight either. If it is a write off, you'll have to buy a new car n wait for money to come through from insurance which can take weeks. Unless the car is safe to drive still in which case you can drive it till the money comes! Or i did when mine was written off anyway. Most insurances tell you to keep the car and minus ...

I was looking to buy a new Punto anyway, i got ripped off on this one. £1,800 for a Mia I was sort of hoping it wasn't a write off though, cause i love it to bits But what you're saying is that if they write off the car, they give you money for it AND you get the car back? Holy moley. And you don't think its worth fixing if its a write off either? Thanks for the quick reply mate.

Not true at all, i had my car written off a while ago from slight damage to the front, yes they give you market value but what i said is. Alot of them noe don't bother taking the car! say the value is 1000, scrap value is 70 they will pay you 930 and leave the car with you! And I was told I couldn't have it repaired because it was more than the value. Whether i wanted it to or not. All this was ...

Also don't just 'plonk' it on eBay. If it's written off then state it 'coz alot of people on there don't tell you that untill afterwards!

If they ask you then yes, otherwise I don't see why you'd have to. Would put the buyer off and it's not CAT C or D so no you don't have to tell them. Although people will say yes you do because its the right thing to do! blah blah! If you're selling a car you make it sound goos as possible but by law you have to answer any questions honestly, so you can't lie about it if they ask you. That goes for anything on...

Looks like they're fixing my Punto! They said it would be ready next friday. I'll sort of miss the courtesy car though, i just got used to no juddering when i lift my foot off the accelerator in 2nd. Also, if I end up selling my car do i need to tell them about the crash? Many thanks.

They should give you a car suitable for your needs. When I got 3rd partied (taken out by another driver) I got a call from Helphire. They asked if the standard Fiesta/Corsa was good enough as replacement for my Ibiza. I told them since theirs would be a 1.2 it was not. Ok they said.. we'll get you a 1.8 Focus. Next day a lorry arrived with a Focus on the back. 400 miles on the clock. Was a sad day when the cheque cleared and I had to...

One thing not noted is that now you have to be "Authorised" to deal with a claim for anything other than your own vehicle. Thats why there has been an increase of claims companies. http://www.claimsregulation.gov.uk/u...authorised.pdf John

Hi Guys If the other driver has admitted liability then you're laughing. If you also have witnesses then it's as good as money in the bank. Unfortunately everyone appears to be missing the most important aspect of this case..... THE LAW . Everyone's banging on about E-bay... spare part... write offs.... courtesy cars etc but there are a couple of important principles involved that answer all of the questions. 1. It is a legal...
