Thread: Copied music files to another drive and now seem to have lost all my ratings etc.

OK.  So I went about the process of moving all my data (music included) to a new drive, separate to my OS drive.  I first copied the entire Music folder to the other drive.  I then pointed my "Music" folder to the new location (under "location").  I then deleted the old Music folder.  Now WMP can't see any of those music files on the new drive.  What is worse is that I suspect that all my ...

What do you mean by "check the location"?  I can't see anything about location in WMP.  The location of my "Music" folder in Vista Ultimate is "S:\Users\Mike".  When I click on Music under the Start Menu, for example, it goes to the right place (on the S: drive).  Mike

Ah, OK.  I'm now convinced that I can't trust MS and in particular WMP with my music metadata, and have changed to using foobar2000.  It takes a LOT of effort to tag and rate files, and this data should be treated with more caution and respect.  It shouldn't be so easy to throw this information away -- merely my moving music files to another drive -- the OS itself allows the Music folder to be ...

Ah, OK.  I'm now convinced that I can't trust MS and in particular WMP with my music metadata, and have changed to using foobar2000.  It takes a LOT of effort to tag and rate files, and this data should be treated with more caution and respect.  It shouldn't be so easy to throw this information away -- merely my moving music files to another drive -- the OS itself allows the Music folder to be moved to another drive!!
