Can anyone think of any science-fiction films that perhaps upset the moral guardians, or offended anyone in the slightest?
There are plenty of horror films, gangster films, action films and such, but not many sci-fi movies come to mind besides the few below.
Contamination & Xtro - Both wound up on the video nasties list in the UK. They are now available (the former uncut) on DVD rated 15....
Clockwork Orange for its graphic depiction of violence.
The Battle for Terra seems to have some people who are offended by it because the human race is depicted as aggressors and others believe that the humans represent American Imperialism.
Night of the Living Dead depiction in 1968 of a strong lead African as the leader who commits violent acts against 2 Europeans had to be controversial....
The Matrix was blamed for the Columbine High School massacre, along with other things like FPS games and Marilyn Manson, of course. But those two kids did dress up like Neo.

I've got to imagine that The World, the Flesh and the Devil raised a few eyebrows with not only its inevitable interracial love affair but the implication of a menage a trois there at the end.

jar jar binks was by FAR not the only sterotypical character in the new star wars films. there were also the
rastafarian gungan chief,
asian trade guild representatives with squinty eyes
sebulba the "camel jockey"
&
the mexican junk yard owner
galaxy of terror is notorious for it's maggot rape scene
bad taste has a similar rep
while i've never seen anyone complain about it, ...
Well, that triptych of things they call the "new Star Wars movies" still has me deeply offended to this day. So when I'm not too busy purging that filmed detritus from my mind, I'll say that Videodrome was quite the controversial piece in terms of violence, sex, and morality. It's also seriously bizzare. Same goes for Crash (NOT the Paul Haggis crap!). I think early Cronenberg was purposefully ...
Transformers 2
The characters Mudflap and Skids (drawn with big lips, big ears and speaking ebonics) were deemed by many to be based on racist characatures of sterotypical black teenagers. It also had a comedy scene of the main character's mother high off marijuana brownies (which got lots of laughs from the kiddies). Megan Fox's gratuitous outfit and poses throughout the movie, profanity from...
"Alien" had been rumored to have induced heart attacks from the infamous chestbursting sequence involving John Hurt's Kane character.

Oh, I don't doubt it was reported since such things have been popular since the days of William Castle, I just don't recall hearing it associated with this film back in '79. ||||||||||||||| ||||| | |||
well I wasn't born when the movie came out, so i'm taking it as a rumor. but people who have seen it in theaters have said it caused many to have heart attacks due the film's intensity. I think there was also some magazine articles on this issue sometime after its theatrical release. David Twohy for AVP3: http://www.petitiononline.com/avp3/petition.html
sad, but true why else would the uber crappy alien vs predator sell 10x as many tickets as the superior in EVERY WAY sky captain and the world of tomorrow ? i found it's innocence to be refreshing myself. My Movie Site takatomon2000.googlepages.com/takatomonsmoviepages
