Hello!
New member here with a question for the experts. I have had two Macaws for about 13 years, all seemed healthy and fine.
Recently, both Macaws have left their play pen in the basement and have moved in under my Furnaces Oil tank.
It's safe.
It's a dark crawl space though.
Not this is the weird part, when I come down to the basement they start screaming out and ...
Thanks,
This did cross my mind though,,,
One is a Green Winged Macaw the other is a Blue Gold.
They have been together for about 13 years and this has never happend before.
I never had them sexed, and both came from different breeders.
They are about 15 years old, I didn't think they could breed at that age?
I have no idea what i'm going to do with an Egg.
Are they bonded? If they are bonded, they might be getting breeding notions into their heads. Birds can be bonded, and even mate, for years without producing eggs, if conditions are not right for egg-laying. Thus it is possible that you could have bonded birds but only be seeing this behavior for the first time.
It does not particularly matter if the birds are a male/female pair or a same-...

Listening to the audio, it is really, really funny. At the beginning you can hear me fumbling about at the top of the cellar stairs along with these two taunting away. Then, right after you hear me start to come down the stairs -- Scout 'the Green Winged ' says '''ohhhhhhh" and starts to pace when he hears me coming.
hahaha i forgot this thread was around so i came back.. omg that vid is awesome!! i almost fav'd it haha. sorry for laughing but its hard to realise they are being aggressive when they make that noise!! rawwwwhhh!! hhahaha lol. just a heads up, chicken wire isnt good for birds because it contains zinc and zinc is fatal to birds if they get it in their system. choose a stainless steel wire if you can or a "bird safe" mesh...

Your bird pen is very neat! And just to be clear I wasn't trying to suggest that you weren't caring for them properly, I was really just curious about your set up. I've never heard of birds in the basement before!
Mike - I really didn't mean to laugh as your situation is anything but funny but your birds had me in stitches. You have your handsful for sure!! Love your set up, they look like they are very well taken care of and are extremely bonded. I agree that you need to block off the under the oil tank hiding/nesting site. That is why they have become extra aggresive, they are going in to breeding mode and protecitng their nesting site. I see you...
i came back to watch the vid again. It's brilliant! So how are the two growlers doing now the hosepipe/snake took over? Are they missing their hidey hole? PS... we want more macaw movies!
