Thread: Completely Unofficial Non-Review DWTS Thread

Started 2 months, 2 weeks ago by Erbo
I'm not doing the same sort of reviews I did for last season's Dancing With The Stars this season--hell, I wasn't even able to watch the entirety of the 2-night premieres, due to one thing and another--but I have some small observations so far. Donny Osmond: Damn, he's pretty good! And he's well-liked by the audience. That could translate into a good run at the Cheesy Mirrorball Trophy. ...

Atypically for me, this isn't horribly bad, unless you hate Aqua, bubblegum pop and/or the 80s. It is catchy, however, so don't blame me if it gets stuck in your head. Aqua - Back to the 80s I rather like it a lot. -------------------- Worst. Celibate. Ever.

Steen, you're slipping, that one didn't make me want to vomit. The best thing about the 80's was, they weren't the 70's. -------------------- Science: We finally figured out that you could separate fact from superstition by a completely radical method: observation.

Well, it's nice to see Aqua are back, the song is good and fared well in Scandinavia, but it's yet to see if they can catch up with the global music business, as saturated as it is nowadays. -------------------- The same old iWanToUseaMac... Who am I fooling? I'm getting a Wii now, iWanToUseaMac isn't :P Get Opera. The best web experience. Contest . Group . Success .

I'm somewhat ashamed to admit I like me a little Aqua. This one is pretty catchy, but seems very similar in concept to Bowling for Soup's 1985 -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DnYm0EmyDVU I guess there's room in my library for both -------------------- Ugh!

Do you enjoy rootling around in charity shops, or second had record shops? If so British Library Sound Archive is probably for you, though I should warn you, that it is one of those sites where you can waste a lot of time. Some recordings are copyrighted and only available for academic purposes, but most of it appears to be available to everyone. There is a great range of material there from...

It looks like it's UK only. Even when I tick the public-domain-only box, every search result leads to a page that says... "Due to copyright restrictions this recording is only available to users in the United Kingdom." -------------------- Science: We finally figured out that you could separate fact from superstition by a completely radical method: observation.

Oh sorry everyone, I didn't realise. -------------------- What if the Hokey Cokey really is what it's all about?

Grummash replied 2 months, 4 weeks ago
Calli - no need to apologise, being from 'Oop North' I am able to access the recordings and I have to say a big thank you. I often mooch about on the BL website but I have never noticed the link to the sound archive...as many toothless old villagers strangling traditional songs as you could possibly wish for! Fabulous! -------------------- ...and yet, across the gulf of space, ...

And, in honor of Donny's glorious victory... White & Nerdy - Take #1 Donny practices his best Krayzie Bone moves with "Weird Al" Yankovic in front of a green screen. (Al was looking for the whitest guy he could find to appear alongside him in this video. Yeah, that's Donny for you.) Watch for him finger-spelling "ROTFLOL" when the song gets to that point. The making of a future champion? --------------------...

TFD - sorry, I was clearly being a bit over-sensitive - I should have realised that your comment was not directed at me personally because you don't have a history of having a pop at other posters. I shall try to be less mardy-arse in future! Stereo - I believe "Horse with no name" is indeed a two-chord wonder, but there are serious songs out there that dispense with the superfluous second chord, such as Bob Marley's...

I've wasted far too much time playing this today, but it did get me through a boring meeting. Enjoy -------------------- Worst. Celibate. Ever.

Bravo!!! Yes, sadly, 90% or so of pop music is comprised of no more than 4 chords... or a rip-off of Pachelbel's Cannon in D . -------------------- "Buy low, sell high get rich and you still die"

Don't get me started! (too late...) Since the downturn came I've found myself back working part time in the local hobby shop. The boss has always had the local 'Smooth Jazz' station on since the format was born. The good news? They changed format this week! Yes! The bad news? It didn't happen before this lukewarm musical abomination became stuck in my head. -------------------- If there's no one beside you When...

I've had When I'm 64 stuck in my head since last night. Someone played Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band at a b-day party.
