Thread: Comment on; people who text message while watching a movie

I guess this is a fairly common issue. I have not really thought about it too much, but I have noticed several people doing it in almost every movie that I have seen for the past 4 or 5 years.
I am probably more in line with, "It doesn't make a difference to me, but I do think it's kinda nutty to pay for a movie, then stare at a tiny screen most of the time instead," but I voted for, "...
I don't mind people TEXTING. But what bothers me is their stupid ringtones. They're annoying and since it's text and not a phonecall, it will ring on and on and on each time there's a new message. Ever heard of silent mode? Sheesh. Just let it vibrate. And also what bothers me is the light from the screen. I hate it because the whole theatre is pitch black but then there's this tiny little light ...
That is kind of my point. I am not really referring to the ones that can keep the sound and lighting to an almost non-existent level. Those are the people that do not get noticed. The others that do get noticed ruin it for everyone. The sounds and noise level can become distracting. Even pushing the keys sometimes creates too much noise. People need to learn the certain places and times ...
I was hoping for something along the lines of "they should die in a fire while stuck in a theater overcrowded by people texting "OMFG FIRE!!!!!! Helpplzkthnx!"
But my personal idea is more that when you go to a movie you turn off your phone -- not silent, not vibrate, OFF -- and end all conversations. The only sounds should be reacting to the film or those associated with the movie-going ...
But my personal idea is more that when you go to a movie you turn off your phone -- not silent, not vibrate, OFF -- and end all conversations. The only sounds should be reacting to the film or those associated with the movie-going experience within reason: muffled popcorn chewing, chair springs adjusting and the occasional straw screech.
So doctors or anyone who might need to be reached in...
I doubt doctors are texting in a movie theatre. Doctors are generally responsible people with an understanding for social and common etiquette. Obviously there are a few exceptions to some mobile use, but if these people, regardless of profession, can't control their mobile use, then no, they shouldn't enjoy a theatregoing experience. Their issues and emergencies should not crossover into other...
I doubt doctors are texting, either. I was thinking more along the lines of their being paged and reached, which might be difficult if their phone or PDA is off. They can return the call outside if necessary.
Also, haven't some medical schools instituted sensitivity courses or some such because many doctors have been found to lack social skills?
"How could you cheat on me? I was so hot."...
Brightly lit phones, keypress sounds, and beeping replies are what gets me. And if it's someone I'm with, I'd be angry that they weren't paying attention to the movie.
Only time I have ever texted is when there was no one else in my row and it was the pre-movie ads and in one case, a trailer that I had already seen and was not interested in the film. Then again, I had the phone way down under...
Sorry, I find "muffled" popcorn chewing sounds and peoples' hands rattling kernal inside popcorn containers to be 10 times worse than a slight vibration sound. What is with people having to spend a whole movie sounding like horses in a barn?
So what time is it on the moon, anyway?

I don't know. If this does truly exist, it probably has more to do with patient treatment. Anyone that gets through medical school to become an MD should know better then to text in a movie theatre. I will actually go a step further. Any teen that ...
I've had at least three movie-going expieriences almost completely ruined by people texting in the past year, which was nearly $30 of my money wasted. Thankfully, the theater I go to offered to give me free passes to make up for it. Unfortunately, you will never get the wasted time back. Life is a limited time offer.
Yeah, I know what you mean. This one time, this guy came in wth sh_tload of plastic bags with drinks and popcorns and chips and hotdogs all for himself. And he keep on eating and eating and the sound of the plastic bag was driving me nuts. I was about to scream, "Damn it, if you wanna eat, go to a f cking restaurant for f ck sake!!" He didn't bring the food from outside, did he? He probably bought it at the concession...

Good thing I'm a calm person. TEAM ALICE MADNESS as you know, is like GRAVITY. All it...
I would suggest the cause and effect may be around the wrong way there. They are probably bored with the movie, which then causes them to start finding other forms of entertainment such as texting. Of course, I could be wrong... I was actually referring to several instances where people were texting / calling people from the beginning of the film, and never tried to pay attention... Ex. During No Country for Old Men , several teenagers were...

Interesting that this has been asked today, as I was moaing about it last night coming out of The Men Who Stare At Goats. The 5 people in the row in front of me were all texting at various points, and at one stage, were even showing each other pictures on their phones. I can't stand it, and as much as I don't understand it, I had to pick the option "they should have their moviegoing privileges taken away". Most...
I hate when people text or talk on their phones during the movie and usually they have bright screens! It usually is people who don't really need to be on the phone (not like doctors, firefighters and that) but teens, college students, wankers in general. I know of some of these people and I avoid going to the movies with them. (I know someone who does the facebook thing in the movies, during dinner and even driving) People acting like...
