Thread: Comcast Portland QAM channels

Started 1 month, 2 weeks ago by mayhem70
Now that's interesting. Up here in Seattle, we had the switchover done this past Monday and I didn't lose any QAM channels (though I did have to de-commission my PVR-500 now). I still have my extended basic from 2-75 plus the local HD plus G4 (SD) on clear qam.

I stand corrected. I did lose MyNetworkTV in HD. Also, it seems like the Silicondust site posts our scans within a minute. And it lists the channels numbers with channel callsigns...for those of you with a HDHR and have to remap your channels again in BTV. I did my remap within 10 mins.

It been two long weeks and I think I have everything working. I hooked up the 2 DTAs to Comcast and activated them. I temporarily hooked up one of them to my PVR500 dual tuner just to get one tuner working so I could record my ESPN shows. I used the front emitter from my USB-UIRT to change channels. To set up multi zones on the USB-UIRT I bought two $2 IR LEDs from Radio Shack. I had a ...

Comcast started encrypting 37 more channels last night. Now, all the channels above 31 are no longer found by my HDHR. I am really glad I got the dual DTA setup working. Portland Comcast was one of the very first to go digital so watch out everyone. If you are on Comcast, you could be next.

It seems like Eugene just bought it. I'm down to 2-30 plus the major networks in HD. Just so I completely understand what's going on, those channels are now gone unless I get a DTA or a cable box? There's no way my HDHR is going to pick them up? If that's the case, then the only way to interface my cable with BTV is through a cable company device? I had that working for a while a year or ...

By DTA do you mean the little boxes Digital to Analog converter boxes that Crapcast provided after the changeover from NTSC to ATCS/QAM? Would a splitter to two of these and a combiner work into a 2250? How would the tuning work? Kind of unclear on this.

I actually went and downloaded Boxee yesterday and started messing around with it. I think I'm in trouble because it looks like there are some shows my wife likes to watch that just aren't available anywhere. No one is making torrents because they aren't really mainstream shows, and they're not available via the web. I'm gonna try to get some DTAs and an USB-UIRT and see if I can get that up and running.

Here in Olympia Wa I get all the local channels plus many more from my QAM setup in digital on a 2250. However, I get zero non-local in HD and only some local in HD. In order to get more local HD I set up over the air digital on my 1600 yesterday. I really hope that cable cards make things better. I really hope Comcast doesn't go out or their way to screw it up for PC customers this time.

Add Comcast in the Seattle region to the list of divisions that have encrypted their digital signals.
