Has anyone here bought the new Colt 1918 reproduction WWI 1911 ? It is supposed to use the old 70 series firing mechanism instead of the series 80 .
I was going to get one until I found out the price
Too rich for my blood .
Worked with two of them, kept the second.
They do use the Pre-Series 70 lockwork.
They're also the sharpest-edged 1911s I've ever fired. Well-done overall, but mine will have to be de-horned & re-finished before it's fired much more.
Denis
You can find the real thing for less cost, so what's the point of buying a retro "reproduction" that costs you your left leg?
Colt simply has zero clues.

I'd love to get an old original one but around here people seem to charge an arm and leg for them .

I'd hope Springfield would drop that hybrid hammer in their top-end models, the gal I talked to was very cordial & tried to be helpful, but couldn't offer any explanation of the three hammer notches beyond "All of the models have them". Denis

http://www.coltsmfg.com/recall.aspx Recall on the replicas. Jesus H. Christ, you'd think they can make a gun that they've been making for nearly 100-years right in this day and age.

At least know what you are talking about before you start bashing. I don't care that you bash Colt.......just do it with a little...
spring·er (sprngr) n. 1. A springer spaniel. 2. Western U.S. A cow about to give birth. 3. Architecture a. The bottom stone of an arch resting on the impost. b. The point or place where the curve of an arch or vault begins.
They are a bit pricey, but according to those who've purchased them...they're worth it. The couple I've seen in the flesh are quite nice. Just really depends upon what your intent is. You could go for Colt's Series 70 Repro, it of course has a S70 firing system. Own one myself, it's nice!
