Thread: Cleaning off the bugs

Started 1 month, 1 week ago by slorider
Does anyone have experience with getting old dried up bugs and guts off the front? Elbow grease gets rid of 95% but a few just won't come out! Want to store the bike clean for the winter.

An easier solution is not to let them become old and dried up in the first place. Clean 'em off when you stop for a fill-up.

I heard about using a degreaser like "Super Clean" ... the results are pretty impressive, this will also help to get then out hard to reach areas like the air induction and undercowel. Your thoughts? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oXQDZr8GiEA

Motul wash and wax works great

Instead of paper towels, use a real towel and soak it with hot water (from the tap, not a kettle) and let that sit over the parts for 15 mins. remove while it's still warm, you should have no real trouble.

Sucess! I finally got 'em all off!! Here's the low down on all the stuff I tried... Water, soak and some soap gets the fresh stuff and dried bug bodies off without a doubt. Honda Pro cleaner is a definite favorite on the shine side but not any better than water and a soak for cleaning. Pledge, toothpaste, bug and tar remover, were complete waste of time! Goo Gone worked OK, but, required lots of elbow grease (not my cup of tea as...

Don't want to thread jack but what about the bugs in the intercooler? I used a toothbrush and it got most of them off, but some of them really went deep into the fins. Any idea how to them out of there?

Wouldn't using dish soap remove the clearcoat from your paint? I've always used a good car wash shampoo when washing my car/bike instead of dish soap for that very reason.
