Thread: Clarifying Coolant Info In Owners Manual - Page 2 - LotusTalk - The Lotus Cars Community

Hmmm Interesting.... A year later and still nobody is able to answer the simple question as to what you use to top off the coolant level. I guess the scientists scared everybody off.

tim, thanks again. great tip on auto compressor drain....once i realized its T fitting was cracked.... It must be this variety: PEAK LongLife Antifreeze Coolant It's OAT, no silica, phosphate. Peak says can be used to mix & top off Dex Cool. IIRC, will not change color of car's anti freeze.

Basically you need a silicate free OAT coolant. I think the Peak Global Long Life meets this requirement, maybe Dexcool, but I am not sure of some of their additives. I went with the Toyota Long Life Red Coolant. No silicates (Asian manufacturers belief the silicates are abrasive to water pumps and seals), no borates and specifically available for Toyota engines. OEM seems to be logical in my ...

I stumbled across a supply of Havoline XLC (Extended Life Coolant) at my local O'Reilly Auto Store here in Bismarck ND. The label mentions ..."Excellent high temperature aluminium protection. Free of Silicate, Phosphate, Nitrite and Borate." .. "DEX-COOL GM approved" It also says it meets or exceeds "American, Japanese and European car manufacturers coolant requirements." And meets ...

Basically you need a silicate free OAT coolant. I think the Peak Global Long Life meets this requirement, maybe Dexcool, but I am not sure of some of their additives.
