As I think about it, many recent politicians who've been funny were Republicans. One of my favorite zingers of all time was when in a press conference a reporter, Sam Donaldson I think, asked Ronald Reagan, then President, if he could think of a single mistake he'd made. Reagan said in his genial manner, "Well, yes, once I was a Democrat"....

LBJ was leaving an Air Force base once. He was walking towards the wrong plane and a junior airman pointed and said, "Mr. President, your plane is over here". LBJ responded, "Son, they're all my airplanes".
Ted Kennedy's wife was talking about Tim Russert's sudden death with NBC's Brian Williams a party in Hyannis Port and she said (paraphrasing) "At least his death was quick and he didn't burden his family with a long hospitalization" When Ted chimed in, "Thanks for the moral support dear.
