China has been HEAVY investing in "civilizing" Africa. At this point we've decided, communally, as a planet, that we won't be inventing anymore technologies. So the only way to make money is to expand current models of consumerism. The most money is waiting in Africa. Going in and turning it into an industrialized nation is where all the profit is. China paints this as a ...

Seems that any place on the planet with defined tribes as the main of the social fabric ends up....well....China is making a mistake with Africa. Brings to mind the warning given the US by the French about entanglements in Indochina. (as it were)

Africa taught all the European colonial powers a lesson; "Africa always wins". It wears down the "best" efforts of any outsider trying to change it.

This PDF is a great read: China and Congo’s coltan connection If the reader is not familiar with the metals coltan and tantalum, well, your perspective on technology might change a bit once you read up a bit.

China's Africa goals more than just natural resources BEIJING (Reuters) - Barely a month goes by without some new energy or mineral deal being struck between China and an African nation. These deals have transfixed the West, but China gets far more from the relationship than raw resources. Africa offers China two important things -- a chance to earn the global respect it believes it deserves in recognition of its growing economic clout,...

Not having completely scanned the thread , (which I am subscribed to somehow) you need to ask yourself what the motives are. Exactly how many countries are there in Africa? Is that a lot? Do any of them recognize the sovereigty of Taiwan*? By UN stnadards is that a sigfnificant number? Or are there Any ? What percentage? Is there a reason why they wouldn't ? (other than the obvious?) If so , why? How's that whole 'we're...

The Chinese started building dams and other infrastructure in Africa a few years ago, it's been obvious since then that they're looking forward. It's part of the economic cycle that as people in some countries become more successful and their living standards rise, their labor becomes more expensive. At that point, low skill jobs go to people who are willing to work for less than those with higher living standards. This happened...

China murdered as many as 50 million of their own under Mao during the Cultural Revolution. You can imagine what they will do to any Africans who get in their way of land and resources! In 10 years, Black Muslims will be screaming about "yellow devils."

I don't think the majority of the relationship is based around humanitarian concerns for Africa. It's pretty much to be expected. The Chinese PTB (who I really don't think they bow down to any specific race or religion) have total control over the govt and absolute authority, at least for now. And absolute power... But the USA is in no position to do anything about that, other than fix its own internals, a tall order. Any...
