Thread: Chevy Truck World

Started 1 month, 2 weeks ago by nstruckin
I am looking to buy a new 2009 or 2010 2500. Not sure if I want the Gas or Diesel. Currently I have a `02 2500 HD 6.0L and wondering if the new trucks have improved gas mileage. Who has a new (08 or 09) 2500 HD 6.0L gas or 6.6L Diesel and what are you seeing for actual fuel mileage? Thanks for the help!

Welcome to the site. 2500 Gas 6.0 with 6-speed and 3.73 gears will get better gas mileage than your 4-speed ?? gears. Having the extra two gears will also help it tow alot better too keeping the rpm`s where they need to be without having to rev the engine as much. That alone should help mileage. 2500 Diesel Some claim mileage in the low 20`s on the highway, but I for one don`t ...

Thanks for the info. I drove both at a dealer last night and he was claiming the new 6.0 with the 6-speed would get 18 or better on the Hwy. I`m skeptical... I like the power of the Diesel and if it gets better mileage, also a plus. I`d like to figure out what people are getting with the 6.0L 6-speed in the real world.

I`ve got the L76 6.0 Vmax motor in my 1500 and I`m pulling 14-15mpg mixed driving and 18-19mpg highway. My truck has the NHT package which is the max towing package and includes 4.10 gears and HD 4-speed trans. Thats keeping my speed (mph) around 65 or below. Above 65mph, my mileage drops to a solid 15-16mpg. I believe the same would go for the 2500`s. The LY6 6.0 which is in ...

I just traded my 02 2500HD with the 6.0 & 411 rear end in for a 09 2500HD with the 6.0 373 rear end 6 speed trans. I got 13 hwy 10 city with the 02 (good truck over 200,000 hard miles) granted the 09 is new has less than 2,000 miles on it now but getting worse milage on the hwy and city. Hope its gets better with age. 6 speed trans has a lower gear (granny gear) and a higher gear (real...

Congrats on the new truck... The gears aren`t weak, they are just closer together. That should help mileage as things loosen up.

I had an 07.5 Dmax and I could never get better than 15-17 MPG no matter how much I babied the truck. The DPF system in the truck ate fuel and took away a lot of the power I had enjoyed with my LBZ Dmax. My LBZ got about 17-19 no matter how I ran it and I got rid of the Dmax and found me a six speed manual 6.7L Dodge Ram which gets right at 18 MPG. When fuel is a dollar more on the ...

Agreed.. I`ve driven a few 09 dmax`s and didn`t see over 15-16mpg on the highway. Not real impressed with the new ones mileage. : I`ve heard GM`s doing away with the 6.0... but what does that mean for the 2500`s... does that mean they are going to put the 6.2`s in the 2500`s?

I`ve also heard they are going to start using 4.5L Dmax`s instead of a 6.6 something to do with emissions...Proly twin turbo to make up for the 2.1L that is missing from the old one ( just my theory )
