My favourite comedian of today is Ben stiller(I loved zoolander and tropic thunder).
I know it may come across as stupid but who would you say is a better COMEDIAN....not actor but a comedian?
I love chaplin as well but who do you prefer more...Ben stiller or charles chaplin

I'm sorry but I have never cared for Ben Stiller. Charlie without a doubt is the best comedian.

I don't think you can compare them... Chaplin was one of the men in that day to pave the way of physical comedy, so Stiller and many other comedians now have to give their thanks to him.
The forms of comedy each does is too different to put them side by side.
"If you should need me, tap this staff three times on a wall."
"Magic?"
"No, it's just loud."
I think Stiller is a better comedian whereas Chaplin was the better talent.
Ben stiller is my favourite comedian actor but I can understand chaplin tugging at anyone's heart strings with his comic/emotional performances

I would like to know how much crack you are smoking. Not just because Ben Stiller is crap, but because Chaplin is above all others. He excelled way beyond everyone in his own time (shoot me but this goes for Keaton and Lloyd as well though I enjoy them both) let alone now. In fact honestly 1 comedian stands out to me as comparable: Sascha Baron Cohen. Charlie would have enjoyed the political-...
The SBC comparison is interesting. He has talent and the genius, but not the pathos and therefore lacks the charisma. Ben Stiller produces workable, watchable, forumlaic film, but is nowhere near the innovator or physical comedian that Chaplin was.
Ben Stiller is the Larry Semon of modern film. I hate Larry Semon. I agree that Cohen doesnt have the pathos...but his sheer cunning puts him up there in my mind. Not many comedians/actors/people are willing to brave the things he does (whether its something gross like poo in a bag or something daring like talking to the head of a muslim terrorist cell while pretending to be a gay austrian and...
not a stupid question at all!!
i love ben stiller...adman sandler...jack black & will ferrel (we're very spoilt nowadays!!) but i honestly don't think any of them no matter how talented & funny they are could get as many laughs as chaplin did with SILENT comedy. he was the master of THAT genre/THAT time so in that context you can't compare them. as for the distinction between actor/comedian as...
No contest. Chaplin wins without a doubt.
Chaplin is a multi -talented genius.
Stiller, in my opinion, isn't that funny.

I've never liked Stiller, and Chaplin is a legend. So it's no contest in my book. Chaplin's films always crack me up, and I just want to crack the TV twenty minutes into a Stiller film.
It's a shame. He seems like a nice guy.
I couldn't agree with you more!!!!!!! I can't stand Ben Stiller, either. He THINKS he's funny but he's sadly mistaken. "After all, a guy has to make a living some way, even if he's a gangster." - Steve Cochran

Stiller lost his touch 5 years ago, anyone interested in the Meet the Parents sequel? I missed that and I wonder when I would give it a chance. He's living on CGI techs now and I doubt I would watch Museum 2 in near future either. Others like Ferell, Black, Vince Vaughn, someone I want to say "shut up." Eddie Murphy was better for some time 20 years ago.
