What's the point of taking out so much wood from the body? Is it purely a weight reduction measure?

Awesome. Half the guitar for only 3 times the price. Win?

I think it makes it more resonant.

My LP weighs 9.3 pounds, and i've been told dozens of times it sounds the same, my friend even has a chambered i've played, but to me it doesn't feel right unless it's cutting into my shoulder & heavy.

True or false, there are some models that are non-chambered?

NaturalBornBoy replied 1 month, 2 weeks ago
Weren't all the older Les Paul's like 10-12 lbs?

Gibson does this with their Historic line and Customs but it's not really possible to do their entire line that way and still be able to find enough large pieces that are of good quality these days.

When I was shopping for my LP last year I called Gibson and asked where they get their mahogany. The customer service woman told me that all Gibson mahogany comes from central american sources, unless marked as korina, which is african.

I think what they're trying to do is achieve that 'semi-hollow bodied tone' in some of the Les Paul models. A lot of you guys are totally missing the point.
