Thread: Cats!

Started 1 month, 3 weeks ago by Scales
I'll be honest. I really don't like cats. But there are two in particular that I hate. Filthy, dirty, horrible creatures! They belong to my next door neighbour and think they can use my garden as a shithouse, digging up and killing our bulbs at the same time. Where we normally have a garden full of birds they've now disappeared through self preservation. The cats are killers. So how ...

We're looking into getting a Westie and wondered if anyone could recommend a Midlands based breeder? Thanks

Delta Lady replied 3 months ago
Claire..don;t know if you have done a search..but if you just type in Breeders of Westies in the Midlands...you will get quite a long list and some near to you as well. I can't recommend any myself..as we have Yorkies...but I think there are some puppies around...In fact there were some for sale here in Derby around 2 weeks ago..but I think it was from a private home. Hope you get ...

Claire. Hope you get a Westie...let us know if you do. Good luck..!!! Can I ask...why a Westie of all the Breeds...? They are an energetic little dog you know...My neighbour has one. About a medium size and she never stops running around and barking ...She wanted a small one like her friends had..but got a rather bigger one...Again the Breeder said it would be very small..a bit ...

I wanted to look further into Westies before making a decision and thought it may help to speak with a breeder, nothing's definate yet. Also a friend has contacted me today to say she's seen some Lakeland/Patterdale puppies for sale in a neighbouring town. We're after a small dog that's good with children and easy to transport in the motorhome. Never having owned a dog it's a difficult...

Hi Claire Can't help with a breeder, but can recommend having a westie. Ours is 11 now and a great little dog (first Westie we've had and would defintely have another). They are such characters, and you can train them (to a degree). When he was a puppy I took him to one-to-one training where he walked to heel without a lead, stayed until I called for him etc. I was so proud - came ...

Sorry can't help with information on breeders in your area but I'll add another vote for Westie's. Our first one lived to the age of 10 during which time we had two young children in the house, no problem (though never left alone together). We are now 7 years on with our second Westie, and have another dog too, a terrier based heinz 57 which she gets on well with. Both times we have bought ...

hi Claire, another vote for a westie! we have one thats about 5.5 years old, and shes a complete poppet. We got her as a rescue from a puppy farm so she was roughly 18 months old , had never been socialised, had had one litter, never been outside her 6ftx6ft concrete pen, totally un house trained, was bald through stress BUT after 6 months of love and care she became the most loving ...

If you could manage along to the Discover Dogs Show at Earls Court in November you can meet dogs of all breeds and find out about them and what would suit your lifestyle/family etc. If you have your heart set n a Westie I'd recommend that you contact the secretary of the Westie Club. They could point you in the direction of breeders. I'd be wary of who I bought one from as I believe ...

We have a BIG problem with wandering dogs here -- all over the place -- caught one in my back garden the other day -- I was spraying some plants at the time -- so it got a great face-full of "bug" spray -- and it does stink.. moved it on though. Keep on finding dog sh*t on the drive -- all neat and tidy curled up and has a point on the top so has to be hosed away -- If it is flat it probably means that it has been trodden on...

Fortunately most dog owners near us are responsible But I do agree, all pets should be chipped. That way costs for cats or dogs can be reclaimed from the owners. Catch a cat or dog on your property, tie it up, call out the pet warden who can return said animal to the rightful owner and collect a massive reward. Scales

It is STILL a cat's nature, domesticated or not, to... Did a hole and poop in it. Chase and kill birds. Go round and round and round on their cat bed/blanket before snuggling down to sleep. To sharpen their claws on the nearest wooden post. Etc. At least (most) cats bury their poop. Whereas dogs..........

QUOTE (Predictable Bob @ Nov 6 2009, 08:36 AM) I don't believe it - IAN of all people ALMOST posted in defence of cats !!!!! Personally I love cats (Although we don't have any at the moment) as they remind me of most people - selfish, disloyal and totally wrapped up in themselves rather than others Bob we've had Lola a year - IMHO best pet a person could own - kids wanted...

I've said it before but I'll say it again - the answer is simple: SUPERSOAKER ! Cats aren't stupid - if they get soaking wet every time they venture onto your property they'll avoid it like the plague

QUOTE (Surfer @ Oct 21 2009, 07:43 AM) QUOTE (bfgbeanieking @ Oct 20 2009, 07:43 PM) I've tried the lion poo and it didn't work. The dog and hosepipe are good though. I am very surprised to hear that as we used fresh lion poo and never had a problem with cats. Another trick was to push a stick into the ground and put a clean clear empty 2 litre plastic bottle upside down on the stick. Not to sure...
