Car stereo recommendations, under £100
My bug is currently having all its wiring done and I want to pop a new stereo in that I can connect my ipod to..... any recommendations? Don't mind make, although I always seem to end up with Kenwoods, but needs to be under £100 as money is now VERY tight after restoration!!
Thx a lot,
...
Just get an amp and a cable.
Why buy a head unit when you have a perfectly good one in the form of your ipod?

Pluuuuuuus, no more taking the front off it when you park the car. Park up, take your ipod, easy.

I recently bought a JVC unit from Halfords, not this one but similar...

I don't think I could live with one without a USB port. You get loads of music on a 8gb pen drive

Whatever you see in somewhere like halfords, check the prices on http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk as well - it can offer a decent saving
I'd highly recommend my current Alpine unit - it's got a good sound output, doesn't skip over every bump, every feature it came with still works, its easy to use, bla bla bla.

I'd just like to not recommend the Maplins ones under £100.
Mine is rather annoying. Has lots of features and shiz but it's not good quality and it's just TOO BRIGHT (so bright it needs caps lock) when you're driving at night. And the chinenglish instructions don't mention turning the brightness down...

Yeah I've seen them, my boss had an alpine unit. I'm just intrigued as to how/ what format the signal is transferred from the wide connector at the bottom - digital, and then better D-A converters in the head unit maybe?

Thanks guys I'll have a look at all these, and yes, the Kenwood does skip ALL the time! Hence just wanting something cheap that plays an ipod, will speak to my 'leccy man about the amp adjustment thingy Tedri Mark....
Have a look on ebay for a Sony CDX-A250 There's a virtually new one for sale on there from a guy in Bury... you'll get it for about £50, or maybe even less. I just won one for £41 They sound great, have a remote control, will play MP3 CDs and there's an input socket on the front for the headphone lead from your ipod. Plus I think they look really good too - nice and subtle, like Edited to add the link:...

Helen, Mark's idea of an amp / cable for your ipod is a great idea. (As long as your ipod keeps working without any issues of course) Second to that, whatever you do, dont buy a cheap / shiny one with lots of chromed plastic and bright lights, it will be shite in quality and it won't last very long (like the Maplin sorts etc). If you really want a head unit (as opposed to connecting your ipod directly) try to get the best you can...
i've an old alpine head unit at home you can have if you want- just taking up room. got connections for a phono cable so you can plug something with headphones into it (ipod etc) works fine, sounds nice but is pretty tatty- doesn't have the ring around it and some of the paint has worn off.
