Cancellation charge is very customary. Another term for it is "short-rating" the premium. The way to avoid it is to change insurers at policy renewal time. A national political campaign is better than the best circus ever heard of, with a mass baptism and a couple of hangings thrown in. - H L Mencken

Hi. I'm an insurance agent in Connecticut, so I know CT insurance fairly well. Yes, auto insurers in CT can charge short rate penalties/cancellation fees if you are canceling your policy mid-term. Having said that, I may have good news for you. Did you cancel your policy after 10/1? If so, CT law now says that your cancellation penalty cannot be more than $100......

In reply to: don't understand how AARP supports a company that takes advantage of their members. AARP is not a non profit organization. The AARP foundation is. They have a track record of not providing the best products for their members. Only one of the reasons I am not an AARP member.

What do you mean. The AARP is making money of the policies sold by Hartford. The Hartford policies sold by independent agents are much cheaper and friendlier to their customers.

Yeah, I seem to remember hearing you could purchase the AARP/Harftford policy from an agent instead of an 800 number now. In this case, the policy will probably be as good as the agent the OP selects.

Yeah, I seem to remember hearing you could purchase the AARP/Harftford policy from an agent instead of an 800 number now. In this case, the policy will probably be as good as the agent the OP selects.
