Thread: Cant' use +P in less than a 5" Barrel?

Started 1 month, 1 week ago by RetLawman590
Hi, I just read in SA online manual that they recommend NOT using +P ammo in any of their guns with less than a 5" Barrel. I thought that as long as the frame was steel there shouldn't be a problem. I can't see a problem with a commander size all steel, but I was hoping I could use +P in a 3" all steel frame. Opinions?

One: follow what the manual says. Two: the smaller the slide on these guns, the more exasserbated the effects of recoil on the firearm itself (wear and tear) from shorter distance of travel. +p rounds = more recoil than standard rounds. Three: powder requires room to burn inside the barrel, creating pressure which increases velocity of the projectile... The point of +p... Shorter barrels ...

The Standard factory rounds, Ball or Hollow Point in .45acp 230gr., have done the job very well for close to 100 yrs. Why mess with it? I can understand your wanting more velocity from your 3", but it's purpose is concealment and self-defence at close range. Isn't it?
