Good morning, KB, Last night I cleaned up all the various diagnostic programs littering my desktop as well as HijackThis, but I did not do the Java update - too late, too tired. This morning on boot-up, an old problem reared its head: automatic returns to previously viewed internet pages. It had been a slight and infrequent problem before I even started this thread about the virus ...

Hi, KB, I have had the computer up and running all day. 1/ No virus reports 2/ No "bouncing" in the post reply box on AumHa and 3/ No "magical, mystery tour" to previous Web pages. I just ran a scan again with AntiVir. Only the same two "warnings" as the original scan. "Whither goest we from here?" I ask of thee. BTW: "Luke Filewalker"? LOL Someone at AntiVir has a sense ...

Since you appear to be doing a nice job road testing the machine, use it for another day and let me know how it's running. I just want to make sure things are ok prior to moving forward. Nice work and Good Luck

Well, unfortunately, this morning after boot-up, we're back to the "magical mystery tour" of automatically reverting to previous pages -- all the way back to the homepage if allowed enough time to "do its thing." Have tried re-booting, problem persists. UPDATE: After Tools=>Delete Browsing History=>Delete All, the problem SEEMS to have stopped. But why should it happen in the first ...

This is unusual. Let's try resetting IE8. Reset IE8 Within IE, Tools - Internet Options - Advanced (tab) At the bottom left, click the button to Reset Internet Explorer settings. Close IE, then re-open. Let me know if that fixes things. Good Luck

PaulDF replied 1 month ago
Thanks KB, I'll do that (reset IE8) and continue my "test drive" for a day or so and keep you posted! Meanwhile, another anomaly? Yesterday evening I wanted to do a scan with AntiVir. Before doing it, I clicked on the "start update" link. After more than 5 minutes it was still "scanning for updates" without the little blue progress bar moving at all. This seems an inordinate amount of ...

Yes, I'll update you if it still runs fine for a couple more days, but by way of reminder, before closing: Quote: PaulDF wrote: Once we're done here, I would like to know whether I should re-install MBAM and your thoughts on either Windows Defender or Spyblaster as a further layer of protection in conjunction with AntiVir. Once you're satisfied that IE is fixed, yes, you can certainly use SpywareBlaster and Windows Defender. Be sure to keep them up to date. As for Malwarebytes', that's your choice. If you choose to use it: 1. Make certain that you are using the latest version; 2. Be sure that you keep it updated; 3. Make sure that you know what you are having it quarantine; 4. Be certain that you're fluent in restoring items from it's...
